Description

Epoxy Adhesive for Crack Sealing or General Bonding

Material Use

KEMKO 046 QuikSEAL – A two-component, solvent-free, non-sag epoxy paste resin/hardener.

KEMKO 046 is used primarily for surface sealing of cracks and delaminations in rigid construction materials such as concrete, masonry, stone, steel, and sealed wood, in preparation for repair by pressure injection grouting. It also serves as a fast-set bonding adhesive for general use in rigid construction materials.

System Components

·      Base Coat: KEMKO 046 is used independently as a sealing adhesive, typically preceding pressure injection grouting in the KIP System.

·      Compatible System: It is part of the KEMKO Injection Process (KIP System), and must be used with compatible injection grouting products from the same system line.

·      Primers: None specified; adheres directly to prepared substrates (dry or damp).

·      Final Coat: Not applicable; this product is used beneath injection repairs or in bonding applications.

Applications

·      Surface sealing before epoxy injection grouting in structural concrete repairs.

·      Bonding rigid materials like concrete, masonry, and sealed wood, particularly effective in cool or cold environments.

·      Applicable on vertical and overhead surfaces due to its non-sag property.

Application Details

·      Mix Ratio: 1:1 by volume.

·      Application Method: Manual mixing with a margin trowel for small batches; mechanical mixing with Jiffy mixer for bonding applications. Apply directly to both bonding surfaces or cracks.

·      Coverage: 200 – 350 lineal feet per gallon in crack sealing.

·      Thickness: Can be applied up to ½ inch without sag; ideal bond line thickness is 1/32 to 1/8 inch.

·      Pot Life / Gel Time: 5 minutes at 73°F, 20 minutes at 40°F (for 100g mass).

·      Bonding Time to Strength: >1.4 hours at 73°F, >5 hours at 40°F.

·      Curing: Fast-curing with sufficient strength for injection grouting or return to service in a short time span.

·      Full Cure Schedule: 7 days at 73°F for typical test properties.

Special Notes

·      Temperature Limitations: Install and cure at substrate temperatures no lower than 40°F.

·      UV Resistance: Not UV stable; may yellow and chalk in direct sunlight.

·      Storage: Minimum 3-year shelf life in sealed containers stored between 60°F and 90°F.

·      Safety: Both components carry moderate health hazard ratings (HMIS 2). Use protective equipment and ensure adequate ventilation during application.

·      Availability: Only available through licensed KEMKO Injection Process applicators.
