Description

Long Potlife, Toughened Epoxy Putty for Underwater Bonding

Material Use:

KEMKO 104 UW Putty is a two-component, solvent-free epoxy resin putty designed for underwater and splash zone repairs. It is ideally suited for use in marine and sewer environments where surfaces are wet or submerged, even under dynamic water conditions. It is commonly used for patching and coating concrete and steel, as well as sealing fiberglass forms and performing sewer pipe repairs.

System Components:

·      Part A: Epoxy Resin (Straw/White color)

·      Part B: Epoxy Hardener (Black color)

·      Mixed Color: Dark Gray

·      Mix Ratio: 4:5 by volume (100:113 by weight)

Applications:

·      Concrete spall repair and coating on piers, seawalls, dock floors, abutments, and drainage systems.

·      Steel surface protection and patching (pilings, ship hulls, drilling rigs, etc.).

·      Wood preservation on boats, telephone poles, and pilings.

·      Sealing seams and injection ports of steel/fiberglass jackets used in pile encapsulation.

·      General underwater adhesive for bonding wet or submerged surfaces.

Application Details:

·      Surface Preparation: Wet or dry sandblasting to remove contaminants; concrete must have a minimum bond strength of 250 psi; steel cleaned to SSPC SP 5 standard.

·      Mixing: Manual kneading for 3-5 minutes or mechanical mixing in dry conditions.

·      Installation Temperature: Minimum substrate temperature 50°F.

·      Application Method: Can be applied directly (unsupported), with fabric support, or built up in layers.

·      Thickness:

o   Direct Application: 1/4" to 3/4" thick

o   Fabric Support: 1/4" to 1" thick

o   For >1" thick layers, apply in multiple stages 24 hours apart to avoid shrinkage and exotherm risks

·      Gel Time: 60 minutes for 200g mass

·      Hard Dry Time: 3 hours at 73°F; 8 hours at 60°F

·      Full Cure Schedule: 7 days at 73°F

·      Pot Life: Long pot life for manageable application time

·      Bond Strength: 250 psi (underwater cured to cured cement mortar)

·      UV Resistance: Not specified; typically not UV-stable

·      Packaging: Available in 1.8 and 9-gallon units

·      Coverage Rate: Not specified; based on thickness and method, calculated per inch thickness

Special Notes:

·      Material is highly tacky, reinforced with Kevlar for impact and abrasion resistance.

·      Must be used by licensed KIP System applicators.

·      Do not add solvents or thin the material.

·      Strong resistance to chemicals including acids, bases, and fuels; limited resistance to hydrocarbon solvents.

·      Proper protective equipment is required for underwater application.

·      Clean tools with acetone or detergent before the material cures.
