Description

Size - 10-gal kit

Material Use

It is a low modulus, ambient-cure, impermeable epoxy-asphalt system used as a self-priming waterproofing membrane and binder. It prevents moisture and chloride intrusion into substrates such as asphalt, concrete, steel, and wood, making it suitable for bridge decks, overlays, and joint nosing/header systems. It also serves as a binder for slurry, slurry broadcast, mortar systems, and chip seal aggregates.

System Components

  • Two-component epoxy-asphalt binder (Part A resin, Part B hardener, mixed 1:1 by volume).
  • Compatible aggregates include washed, dried mineral aggregates, quartz, emery, aluminum oxide, or recycled tire rubber.
  • May be used with zinc primer on steel substrates.
  • Can be extended with aggregates for slurry, slurry broadcast, and mortar overlays.

Applications

  • Waterproofing membrane for bridge decks and vehicular surfaces.
  • Skid-resistant overlays and high-friction surface treatments (HFST).
  • Bonding of dissimilar overlays.
  • Mortar overlays and slurry systems.
  • Joint nosing/header repairs.
  • Chip seal overlays.

Application Details

  • Self-priming membrane applied at 40 mils total thickness in two lifts (north–south, then east–west).
  • Receiving coat for aggregate overlays applied at 16 mils, with aggregate broadcast at 0.8–1.0 lb/ft² (0.36–0.45 kg/ft²).
  • Slurry system: 3 gallons mixed binder to one 50 lb bag aggregate, yielding approx. 0.6 ft³.
  • Mortar/joint nosing system: 2 bags of 50 lb aggregate to 1.25–1.5 gallons binder, yielding 1 ft³.

Special Notes

  • Pot life / Gel time: 30 minutes at 100 g mass.
  • Bond strength: 400 psi to mortar in 4.5 hours at 73°F; slower cure at lower temps.
  • Installation temperature range: 45°F (7°C) to 120°F (47°C); substrate must be dry and sound.
  • Humidity limitation: Relative humidity must be below 85% during installation.
  • UV Stability: Not UV-stable; material is black (unpigmented).
  • Thickness limits:
    • Membrane – 40 mils total (two lifts).
    • Aggregate overlays – 16 mil binder + aggregate broadcast.
    • Slurry – 0.6 ft³ yield per 3 gal + 50 lb aggregate.
    • Mortar overlays – ~¼ inch thickness with aggregate blend.
  • Coverage: Binder alone covers approximately 40 mils thickness per lift, spread by roller, squeegee, or spray. Coverage in ft²/gal depends on system (e.g., slurry, mortar, broadcast).
  • Shelf life: 3 years in sealed container at 50–90°F.
  • Chemical resistance: Excellent against acids, bases, fuels, oils, and automotive fluids; limited resistance to hydrocarbon solvents.
