Description
PC-220/PC-220SC is a single-component, liquid-applied, moisture-cured aromatic polyurethane elastomeric waterproofing base membrane. PC-220SC is designed for use in Southern California to be in compliance with SCAQMD air quality standards.
Material Use
PC-220 and PC-220SC are single-component, liquid-applied, moisture-cured, aromatic polyurethane elastomeric membranes designed primarily as base waterproofing layers. The PC-220SC variant is formulated to meet South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) VOC regulations, making it suitable for installations in Southern California.
System Components
These materials serve as the base coat in waterproofing systems and may be used in conjunction with topcoats such as Polyurethane topcoats when UV resistance is needed. Recoating after 48 hours requires surface reactivation using Polyprime U. Primer requirements depend on substrate conditions and system configuration but are not explicitly detailed in the TDS.
Applications
Typical applications include use on concrete, plywood, metal, and wood surfaces. This material is ideal for horizontal and vertical surfaces requiring a seamless, waterproof base membrane, such as decks, roofs, and under tile installations.
Application Details
Mix the material thoroughly with a mechanical mixer at low speed to avoid entrapping air. Apply using a squeegee or notched trowel; use a phenolic resin core roller for backrolling. Aggregate (washed, dry, rounded sand of 16 to 20 mesh size with minimum hardness of 20 lbs/100 sqft) is recommended to be broadcast into the first coat if a slip-resistant finish is desired or to support recoat adhesion.
· Coverage Rate:
o PC-220: 1 gal/100 sqft (0.41 L/sqm)
o PC-220SC: 1 gal/100 sqft (0.41 L/sqm)
· Dry Film Thickness per coat:
o PC-220: 11 ± 2 mils (279 ± 50 microns)
o PC-220SC: 14 ± 1 mils (102 ± 3 microns)
· Application Temperature Range: Apply at 75°F (24°C) and 50% relative humidity. Performance may vary based on temperature and humidity.
· Pot Life and Recoat Window: Material must be recoated within 48 hours to ensure proper intercoat adhesion.
· Curing Time:
o Allow coating to cure 16 hours before foot traffic or applying subsequent coats.
o Full cure varies with temperature and humidity.
o Accelerated curing may be achieved by adding PC-50 in small quantities (details not provided in TDS).
· Limitations:
o Must not trap air or moisture during mixing.
o Avoid application in conditions that may lead to entrapment of moisture or solvents.
o VOC content varies: PC-220 – 2.01 lb/gal (240 g/L); PC-220SC – 0.78 lb/gal (94 g/L)
o Not UV stable — a topcoat is required for UV exposure resistance.
Special Notes
PC-220SC is specifically designed to comply with stringent VOC limits, especially for use in Southern California. The system must be applied in a controlled environment, avoiding high humidity or low temperature. Proper surface prep is essential, and general guidelines should be referred to. Both versions require post-cure reactivation with primer if recoating after 48 hours.
