Description
PipePro Ultra is a direct‐to‐metal, quick‐set, two component, 100% solids polyurethane designed to protect pipelines from corrosion and abrasion. It is especially formulated for Water Transmission Piping and Piping ID/OD applications.
Material Use:
PipePro Ultra – Two Component, 100% Solids Polyurethane Coating. PipePro Ultra is a high-performance, quick-set polyurethane coating used primarily for corrosion and abrasion protection of steel, ductile iron, and concrete pipes. It is ideal for water transmission systems, including interior/exterior pipe coating, buried tanks, power plant infrastructure, and steel pilings.
System Components:
PipePro Ultra is a two-part polyurethane system, mixed in a 1:1 ratio using a heated, plural-component spray unit. It does not require thinning and must not be diluted. The coating can be built up in a single multi-pass application, commonly achieving 25–35 mils for steel substrates. No primer is explicitly required due to its direct-to-metal adhesion capabilities.
Applications:
· Interior and exterior surfaces of steel and ductile iron pipes
· Buried tank exteriors and storage tanks
· Water transmission and power plant piping
· Penstocks and steel poles (above and below grade)
· Suitable for both atmospheric and immersion services
Application Details:
· Mixing: Agitate each side thoroughly; do not pre-mix A and B sides manually.
· Spray Equipment: Heated, plural component, airless spray unit with a 1:1 mix ratio.
· Surface Prep:
o Steel: SSPC-SP10 / NACE 2 Near White Blast with 3–4 mil profile (immersion) or 2 mil (atmospheric)
o Ductile Iron: 2–5 mil surface profile
o Concrete: Blast to remove laitance
o Galvanized Steel: Contact manufacturer
· Recommended Thickness: 20–120 mils depending on certification or application requirements
· Coverage Rate: Theoretical coverage is 1600 sqft/gal/mil
· Cure Times at 75°F (24°C):
o Dry to Touch: 50 seconds to 3 minutes depending on formulation (Quick to Slow-Set)
o Dry to Handle: 4 to 15 minutes
o Full Cure: <7 days
o Recoat Window: 1–3 hours
Environmental & Physical Limitations:
· Temperature Limits During Application:
o Surface/Material Temp: 125–140°F (Optimum: 130–140°F)
o Ambient Temp: 35–120°F (Optimum: 70–90°F)
o Humidity Range: 0–85% (Optimum: 0–50%)
· Substrate must be 5°F above dew point before application
· UV Stability: Shows some chalking and darkening with UV exposure; not UV-stable for exterior aesthetics
· Pot Life: Not relevant; fast-set product cured on application
· VOC Content: Zero VOCs – 100% solids formula
· Storage: 1-year shelf life when stored indoors at 50–79.9°F (10–26.6°C). Protect from humidity and freezing.
Special Notes:
· Certified to AWWA C222-18 and NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for potable water systems (pipes >4", valves/fittings >4", tanks >1000 gallons)
· Excellent resistance to abrasion, impact, and various chemicals including 10% sulfuric acid, 30% NaOH, and diesel fuel
· Provides a continuous, seamless, high-build protective layer with very low water absorption
· Ideal for projects requiring rapid return to service due to fast cure profile
· Second coats must be applied within the recoat window or surface roughening is required
