Description
The Poly-I-Gard™ 246 Vehicular Traffic Deck System is a liquid-applied, high solids, moisture-cured waterproofing system. It utilizes an epoxy primer and one easy-to-use high tensile, aromatic polyurethane to complete the system.
Material Use
Poly-I-Gard 246 is a liquid-applied, high-solids, moisture-cured, elastomeric polyurethane system designed for waterproofing and protecting vehicular traffic decks. Its purpose is to protect concrete surfaces from spalling, freeze/thaw cycles, chemical attack, and abrasion while accommodating structural movement.
System Components
The complete system consists of:
· Primer: Polyprime 2180/2180SC or Polyprime 21. For rough/porous substrates, Polyprime EBF-LV is recommended.
· Joint Treatment (if applicable): PC-260 elastomeric caulk and reinforcement with Straight Jacket Tape.
· Intermediate Coat: Poly-I-Gard 246
· Topcoat: Poly-I-Gard 246 (multiple coats with aggregate broadcast)
Applications
· Vehicular traffic decks
· Concrete roofs and decks over occupied spaces
· Balconies and walkways
· Stairs and helicopter pads
Application Details
· Primer Application: 300 sq ft/gal (0.14 L/m²), 4 ± 1 dry mils (102 ± 25 microns). For porous concrete, Polyprime EBF-LV is used at 200 sq ft/gal (0.20 L/m²).
· Base Coat (Phase 3): 1.25 gal/100 sq ft or 80 sq ft/gal. Minimum 14 ± 2 dry mils (356 ± 51 microns).
· Traffic Coat (Phase 4–5): 1 gal/100 sq ft or 100 sq ft/gal. Minimum 12 ± 2 dry mils per coat (305 ± 51 microns), aggregate broadcast for slip resistance.
· Topcoat (Phase 6): 1.25 gal/100 sq ft or 80 sq ft/gal. Minimum 14 ± 2 dry mils.
· Finished System Thickness: 40 ± 5 dry mils overall (1016 ± 125 microns); 52 ± 5 dry mils (1321 ± 125 microns) for high-traffic zones, excluding aggregate.
Special Notes
· Temperature & Humidity: Application must occur at least 5°F (3°C) above the dew point. At 75°F (24°C) and 50% RH, the system allows light foot traffic after 24 hours and full vehicular traffic after 72 hours.
· Surface Limitations: Do not apply on-grade slabs, slabs with buried membranes, or any substrate with compressive strength under 3000 psi. Asphalt surfaces require priming with Polycoat PC-IM 129.
· UV Stability: Not specified; typically aromatic polyurethanes are not UV stable unless otherwise stated.
· Coverage Rate & Thickness: Overall coverage is approx. 80–100 sq ft/gal per coat depending on the application phase. Wet film thickness aligns with dry mil targets using proper equipment (notched trowels/squeegees, phenolic rollers).
· Pot Life and Cure Time: Not explicitly stated; curing phases suggest 24 hours for foot traffic and 72 hours for full cure at standard conditions.
· VOC Compliance: Multiple versions (e.g., SC, EBF-LV) allow for VOC regulation adherence across jurisdictions.
· Fire Rating & Approvals: Class A Fire Rated (ASTM E108, UL 790), ICC-ES ESR-2785, LA City RR#25171, ASTM C957 & C1028 compliant.
