Description

The Poly-I-Gard™ 246SC Vehicular Traffic Deck System is a liquid-applied, high solids, moisture-cured waterproofing system. It utilizes an epoxy primer and one easy-to-use high tensile, aromatic polyurethane to complete.

Material Use:

Poly-I-Gard 246SC is a high-solids, liquid-applied, moisture-cured waterproofing system engineered for vehicular traffic decks. It is designed for durability and elasticity, capable of withstanding structural movement, spalling, freeze/thaw cycles, and chemical exposure. Common applications include vehicular decks, walkways, balconies, helicopter pads, and concrete roofs over occupied spaces.

System Components:

This is a three-coat system comprised of:

·       Primer: Polyprime EBF-LV, a two-component epoxy primer.

·       Intermediate/Base Coat: Poly-I-Gard 246SC polyurethane.

·       Topcoat: Poly-I-Gard 246SC polyurethane.

PC-260 is used for crack and joint treatment in early preparation stages.

Applications:

The system is suitable for concrete substrates with a minimum strength of 3000 psi, properly finished and free from defects. It should not be used on-grade slabs, split slabs with buried membranes, or in environments subject to hydrostatic pressure unless pre-treated. Plywood, if used, must be APA-rated exterior grade.

Application Details:

The complete system is applied in multiple phases:

1.       Preparation: Joints/cracks treated with PC-260 and reinforced with Straight Jacket Tape.

2.       Priming: Apply Polyprime EBF-LV at 1 gal/200 sqft (200 sqft/gal), yielding ~7 dry mils.

3.       Base Coat: Apply Poly-I-Gard 246SC at 1 gal/100 sqft (100 sqft/gal), achieving 14 ± 2 dry mils.

4.       Heavy Traffic Zones: Add a second coat and broadcast aggregate to reach 28 ± 4 mils.

5.       Intermediate Coat with Aggregate: 3/4 gal/100 sqft results in 12 ± 2 dry mils.

6.       Topcoat: Final 1 gal/100 sqft, again 14 ± 2 dry mils, with optional line striping using epoxy paint.

Total system yields 40 ± 5 dry mils overall and up to 52 ± 5 dry mils in heavy traffic areas (excluding aggregate).

Special Notes:

·       Pot Life & Cure Times: Optional Polyglaze Hardener accelerates cure to 6–8 hours per coat; recoats within 8–12 hours. Full vehicular traffic is allowed after 72 hours at 75°F and 50% RH.

·       Environmental Limits: Apply only when substrate temperature is at least 5°F above dew point. Ideal application at 75°F and 50% RH. Do not apply on wet, unvented, or improperly sloped surfaces.

·       UV Stability: Material is aromatic polyurethane, not UV-stable long-term; consider overcoating in exposed UV environments if aesthetics matter.

·       Thickness and Coverage: Total application is 40–52 dry mils. Coverage rates vary:

o   Primer: 200 sqft/gal

o   Base/Top Coats: 100 sqft/gal (1 gal per 100 sqft)

o   Intermediate Aggregate Coat: 133 sqft/gal (0.75 gal per 100 sqft)

·       Shelf Life: 1 year when stored in original sealed containers at 60–95°F (15–35°C).

·       Warning: Contains isocyanates, solvents, epoxy resin, and curatives. Use proper PPE and ensure ventilation during application.
