Description
The Poly-I-Gard™ 575FR (Fire Rated, Class A) Vehicular Traffic Deck System is a very fast setting, rapid curing, 100% solids, polyurethane/polyurea, liquid applied, chemically-cured waterproofing coating system
Material Use
Poly-I-Gard 575FR (Fire Rated, Class A) is a high-performance, liquid-applied, 100% solids polyurethane/polyurea-based vehicular traffic deck coating system. This elastomeric, waterproofing system is rapid curing, chemically resistant, and designed for high durability under vehicular and pedestrian traffic. It is rated as Class A Fire Rated and meets several standards, including ASTM C-957, ICC-ES ESR-4736, and Miami Dade NOA 21-1207.01.
This system is used for waterproofing and protecting concrete surfaces that are exposed to vehicular or pedestrian traffic. It is particularly suitable for parking structures, balconies, rooftop decks, helicopter pads, walkways, over occupied spaces, and as an underlayment for thin set tile applications.
System Components
Poly-I-Gard 575FR is a multi-layer system composed of:
· Primer: Polyprime 21, Polyprime 2180SC, or Polyprime EBF-LV
· Base Coat: PC-260 or PC-280
· Top Coat: Poly-I-Gard 295
Primers are two-component epoxies; the base coat is a two-component, thermal-stable elastomeric; the topcoat is a solvent-free, hybrid aliphatic polyurea.
Applications
It is applied in five distinct phases:
1. Joint and crack treatment using PC-260/280 and reinforcement with 4" Straight Jacket Tape.
2. Priming of concrete with Polyprime 21 or 2180SC at 300 sqft/gal (4 dry mils), or EBF-LV at 200 sqft/gal for porous concrete.
3. Base coat application of PC-260/280 at 1.5 gal/100 sqft (66 sqft/gal) achieving 24 ± 2 dry mils.
4. First topcoat layer of Poly-I-Gard 295 at 1.2 gal/100 sqft (83 sqft/gal) with broadcast sand for slip resistance (adds 19 dry mils).
5. Final coat of Poly-I-Gard 295 at 1 gal/100 sqft (100 sqft/gal) with additional broadcast sand (adds 15 ± 2 dry mils).
Application Details
· Total Thickness: 56 dry mils (1422 microns)
· Coverage:
o Primer: 200–300 sqft/gal depending on product and surface
o Base Coat: 66 sqft/gal
o Top Coat Layers: 83 sqft/gal and 100 sqft/gal respectively
· Curing Times: Each coat cures tack-free within 3–4 hours at 70°F and 50% RH; minimum 36 hours before vehicular traffic.
· Minimum Ambient Application Temperature: 5°F above dew point
· Substrate Requirements: Concrete must be ≥3000 psi and cured for 28 days. Plywood must be APA-rated exterior grade.
· Limitations: Not for use on grade slabs, buried membranes, or over unvented metal pans. Sensitive to heat and moisture before cure.
Special Notes
· UV Stability: Final topcoat (Poly-I-Gard 295) is UV resistant.
· Pot Life: Not specified, but rapid curing characteristics suggest immediate use upon mixing.
· VOC Compliance: Must select appropriate primer and material grade per local regulations.
· Maintenance: Line striping should be done using epoxy paint.
· Under Tile Use: When used under tile, sand is broadcast to refusal in Phase 4 and Phase 5 is skipped.
