Description

Polycoat-Aquaseal™ 5000 is a single-component, liquid-applied, bitumen-modified, coal-tar-free, moisture-cured polyurethane waterproofing membrane and is approved by the City of Los Angeles RR#25935

Material Use:

Polycoat-Aquaseal 5000 is a single-component, bitumen-modified, coal tar-free, moisture-cured polyurethane waterproofing membrane. It is designed for use on below-grade concrete substrates and is particularly suitable for waterproofing applications in areas like basements, between slabs, bridges, tunnels, planters, and shower pans.

System Components:

This membrane is used alone or with a GC Additive for green concrete applications. It comes in four variations:

·       5000H (Horizontal for cured concrete)

·       5000V (Vertical for cured concrete)

·       5000GCH (Horizontal for green concrete)

·       5000GCV (Vertical for green concrete)

When used on green concrete, a GC Additive is mixed at ½ pint (256 ml) per 5 gallons (18.9 liters) of Polycoat-Aquaseal 5000. Additionally, Polycoat-Aquaseal 5000WC-H is a water-catalyzed version that can be applied at any thickness. Reinforcing fabric may also be embedded in the wet coating where required.

Applications:

Typical installations include waterproofing for basements, between slab systems, planters, tunnels, bridges, and wet areas such as shower pans. It may be applied to both green and fully cured concrete, making it suitable for both new and existing constructions.

Application Details:

Polycoat-Aquaseal 5000 can be applied using a brush, roller, trowel, squeegee, or airless sprayer. Surface preparation must ensure all substrates are clean, dry, and primed where necessary (e.g., metal flashings require primer). All cracks up to 1/16” (1.58 mm) must be stripe-coated, and larger ones filled with polyurethane sealant. The membrane is applied in two coats of 30 wet mils each, not exceeding 30–40 wet mils in a single application to ensure proper curing. Approximate coverage is 100 ft² per gallon (2 gallons per 100 ft²), yielding a dry film thickness of 28 mils.

Special Notes:

·       Curing Time: Minimum 16 hours per coat at 75°F (24°C) and 50% RH. Re-priming is required if over 48 hours elapse between coats.

·       Temperature Range for Application: Product must be stored and used within 60–95°F (15–35°C).

·       Pot Life and Shelf Life: Shelf life is 1 year in original sealed containers. Once opened, material should be used promptly.

·       UV Resistance: The product is not UV-stable and must not be exposed to ultraviolet rays.

·       Limitations: Not suitable for on-grade slabs, split slabs with buried membranes, sandwich slabs with insulation, slabs over unvented metal pans, magnesite, lightweight concrete, or swimming pools. Asphalt surfaces must first be coated with Polycoat-Aquaseal 5000.

·       Service Temperature Range (after cure): -25°F to 200°F (-31.7°C to 65°C)

·       VOC Content: ≤100 g/L

·       Cleanup: Clean tools with an environmentally safe solvent immediately after use.
