Description

The Polydeck® 160MR/160MR-SC Pedestrian Traffic Deck System is a fluid-applied, metal- reinforced, polyurethane, waterproofing decking system. The system utilizes a primer, a sand slurry mixture over attached metal lath, one coat of a fast-setting, chemically cured polyurethane elastomeric basecoat with rubber aggregate, and one- or two-coats of an aliphatic polyurethane topcoat.

 Material Use

POLYDECK 160MR/160MR-SC is a fluid-applied, metal lath-reinforced, polyurethane waterproofing and pedestrian traffic decking system designed for high-durability applications. It includes both standard (160MR) and sand-aggregate configurations (160MR-SC) that use a flexible elastomeric structure for long-term performance.

This system is ideal for waterproofing and protecting surfaces exposed to pedestrian traffic, offering strong resistance to freeze/thaw damage, spalling, and chemical exposure. It is specifically engineered for use on balconies, patios, roof decks, sun decks, and walkways, with excellent elastomeric and thermal stability properties that accommodate structural movement.

System Components

The system consists of the following layers:

·       Primer: Polyprime 2180SC (for general use) or Polyprime EBF-LV (for rough or porous concrete or outgassing concerns)

·       Basecoat: PC-260 polyurethane elastomeric with optional incorporation of rubber or sand aggregate

·       Reinforcement: Hot-dipped galvanized metal lath

·       Topcoat: Polyglaze 100/100C/100SC or Polyglaze AL-50/AL-50SC, with optional second coat for warranty purposes

Applications

The system is suited for both plywood and concrete substrates. For concrete, the surface must have a minimum strength of 3000 psi and be cured for at least 28 days. The substrate must be clean, dry, and trowel-finished with fine brooming. Plywood must be APA-rated exterior grade or better, new or sanded, and properly fastened.

Application Details

·       Primer Application: Polyprime 2180SC at 300 sqft/gallon or EBF-LV at 200 sqft/gallon

·       Basecoat Slurry: PC-260 mixed 1:1 by volume with sand or rubber, applied at 6 gallons/100 sqft

·       Topcoat Application: Applied at 1.25 gallons/100 sqft (80 sqft/gallon) for the first coat, and 1 gallon/100 sqft (100 sqft/gallon) for the second coat (required for warranty)

·       Dry Film Thickness: ~125 ± 5 mils for the full system; basecoat ~90 ± 2 mils, first topcoat ~15 ± 2 mils, second topcoat ~12 ± 2 mils

·       Aggregate Broadcasting: 10 lbs/100 sqft of 16–30 mesh white sand or rubber for skid resistance

·       Slope/Repair Options: Neat PC-260 or with added sand/rubber in 0.5 to 1.5 volume ratio

Special Notes

·       Pot Life and Cure: Fast setting; Polyglaze Hardener can reduce cure time to 2–4 hours at 75°F (24°C). Recoats recommended 8–12 hours after tack-free state.

·       Temperature and Humidity: Apply only when ambient and substrate temperature is above 5°F (3°C) above dew point. Do not apply on substrates exposed to hydrostatic pressure or rising moisture.

·       Coverage and Yield:

o   Primer: 200–300 sqft/gallon depending on substrate porosity

o   PC-260 Slurry: 6 gallons/100 sqft

o   Topcoat: 80–100 sqft/gallon

·       UV Resistance: Aliphatic polyurethane topcoats (Polyglaze 100/AL-50 series) are UV-stable

·       Shelf Life: All components have a shelf life of 1 year when stored between 60–95°F (15–35°C) in unopened containers

·       Limitations: Not suitable for on-grade slabs, unvented metal pans, magnesite, sandwich slabs with buried membranes or insulation, or poorly cured/weak concrete.
