Description
Polyeuro® 5502 is a fast setting, rapid curing, 100% solids, flexible, aromatic, two component, spray polyurea that can be applied to suitably prepared concrete and metal surfaces. It has extremely fast gel time making it suitable for applications down to -20°F (-28.89°C).
Material Use:
Polyeuro 5502 – Two-component, 100% solids, aromatic polyurea protective coating.
Polyeuro 5502 is used as a fast-setting, high-performance spray-applied elastomeric coating designed for waterproofing, abrasion resistance, and chemical protection. It is suitable for a wide range of industrial, marine, and infrastructure applications.
System Components:
· Base Coating: Polyeuro 5502 is self-contained and can be applied directly to many substrates without a primer, especially mild or carbon steel.
· Primers (when needed):
o For deteriorated concrete: PC-260 or Polyprime 21 with sand.
o For metals and complex surfaces (aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel, galvanized steel): appropriate primer post-surface preparation is recommended.
· Topcoat (if UV resistance is required): Use an aliphatic polyurethane or polyurea coating within 6 hours for a colorfast, UV-stable finish.
Applications:
Polyeuro 5502 is recommended for:
· Cold storage and food processing facilities
· Manholes, walkways, and balconies
· Parking decks and warehouse floors
· Mining, refineries, and power plants
· Secondary containment and marine environments
· Structural steel and paper/pulp mills
Application Details:
· Mix Ratio: 1:1 by volume
· Pot Life: 4–8 seconds at 150–160°F
· Tack Free Time: 45–60 seconds
· Recoat Window: 0–6 hours
· Application Temperature: Material preconditioning to 75–80°F; substrate at least 5°F above dew point
· Spray Equipment: Heated plural component system (min. 2000 psi, >150°F at spray tip)
· Minimum Applied Thickness: 1 mm
· Coverage: 1 gallon per 1600 sq.ft. at 1 mil; adjust accordingly based on thickness (e.g., 80 mils = 20 sq.ft./gal)
· Foot Traffic Ready: 1–4 hours
· Full Cure Time: >24 hours
· Substrates: Suitable for concrete, steel, wood, aluminum, fiberglass, some plastics, and more with appropriate preparation
Special Notes:
· Environmental Limits: Application down to -20°F possible; dry service range from -40°F to 250°F
· Humidity: Application surface must be dry; minimum 5°F above dew point
· UV Stability: Not UV stable — tends to yellow and lose gloss under UV exposure; topcoat recommended for outdoor exposure
