Description
Polyeuro® 5502-18PW is ANSI/NSF 61 approved for direct contact with potable water. It is a fast setting, rapid curing, 100% solids, flexible, aromatic, two component, spray polyurea that can be applied to suitably prepared concrete and metal surfaces.
Material Use:
Polyeuro 5502-18PW – Two-Component Aromatic Polyurea Protective Coating
Polyeuro 5502-18PW is designed for protective waterproof and corrosion-resistant coatings, particularly in potable water environments. It is ANSI/NSF 61 approved for direct contact with drinking water and suitable for concrete, metal, and a wide range of substrates in industrial, marine, and public applications.
System Components:
This is a two-component system, comprised of Side-A and Side-B mixed in a 1:1 volume ratio. Color Packs, when used, must be added to Side-B. It can be used with Polycoat PC-260 or a Polyprime 21/sand mixture for surface repair prior to application.
Applications:
Ideal for use in potable water tanks and pipes (concrete or metal), aquatic habitats, basins, canals, cold storage facilities, livestock and dairy farms, offshore platforms, wastewater treatment plants, marine submersion areas, structural steel, and industrial flooring or containment areas.
Application Details:
· Application Method: Plural component, heated, high-pressure 1:1 spray equipment (e.g., Graco Reactor).
· Surface Prep: Clean, dry, and adequately profiled surface required. For concrete, follow SSPC-SP13/NACE 6 or ICRI CSP 3-5. For metal, SSPC-SP10/NACE 2 near-white blast.
· Temperature Requirements:
o Ambient during install: Minimum 5°F above dew point.
o Service (Dry): -40°F to 250°F (-40°C to 121°C)
o Service (Wet): 40°F to 120°F (4.44°C to 48.89°C)
· Pot Life: 4–6 seconds @ 150°F (65.5°C), 50% RH
· Tack-Free Time: 30–45 seconds
· Recoat Window: 0–6 hours
· Return to Service: Foot traffic after 1–4 hours, full service after >24 hours
· Recommended Applied Thickness: Greater than 2 mm
· Coverage: Theoretical 1 mil = 1 gal / 1600 ft². Use formula: (1600 ft²/ mil ÷ dry mil thickness) × solids content.
· Substrate Adhesion Notes: No primer required for mild or carbon steel. Primers recommended for deteriorated concrete and certain metals (e.g., aluminum, galvanized, stainless steel). Adhesion testing recommended for non-standard substrates.
Special Notes:
· UV Stability: Aromatic polyurea; not UV stable – topcoat recommended for UV exposure.
· VOC Content: 0% (100% solids)
· Flexibility: Excellent; 400% elongation
· Hardness: 50 ± 5 Shore D
· Chemical Resistance & Thermal Stability: Good
· Shelf Life: 1 year from manufacture in sealed containers stored at 60–95°F (15–35°C); avoid freezing.
· Limitations: Must not be diluted. Isocyanate-containing – proper PPE and ventilation required.
