Description

Polyprime® 21 is a two-component, high solids, liquid applied, epoxy-polyamine primer with unique penetrating characteristics. Polyprime® 21 is ANSI/NSF 61 approved for direct contact with potable water.

Material Use

Polyprime 21 – A two-component, high-solids epoxy-polyamine primer designed with excellent penetrating characteristics. It is ANSI/NSF 61 approved for direct contact with potable water.

Polyprime 21 serves as a penetrating primer for various substrates, including concrete and plywood. It provides a seamless, adhesive base layer for subsequent coatings in waterproofing, concrete repair, and floor coating systems.

System Components

Polyprime 21 is part of a system that includes a primer (Polyprime 21) and subsequent base or topcoats. It must be followed by a compatible coating after it becomes tack-free. It is typically used with liquid-applied membranes and polyurethane or polyurea topcoats (refer to specific coating TDS for compatibility).

Applications

·       Concrete surfaces

·       Plywood surfaces

·       Potable water applications (NSF 61 approved)

·       Typically used in waterproofing and protective coating systems as a primer layer

Application Details

·       Mixing Ratio: 2 parts Side-A (Blue) to 1 part Side-B (Yellow)

·       Pot Life: 20–30 minutes at 75°F (24°C) and 50% RH

·       Application Methods: Airless sprayer, brush, or phenolic resin core roller

·       Coverage: ~300 sqft per gallon

·       Recommended Film Thickness: 5 ± 1 mils dry film thickness

·       Tack-Free Time: 4–6 hours at 75°F (24°C), 50% RH

·       Coating Window: Should be overcoated within 12–16 hours of tack-free state

·       Viscosity: 600 ± 50 cps at 75°F

·       VOC Content: 0.75 lb/gal (90 g/L)

Special Notes

·       Temperature Range for Application: Minimum surface temperature 50°F (10°C), and at least 5°F (3°C) above dew point

·       Humidity Limitations: Low humidity extends cure time; product is sensitive to heat which accelerates cure and reduces pot life

·       UV Stability: Not UV stable – must be top-coated with a UV-resistant layer if exposed to sunlight

·       Shelf Life: 1 year in factory-sealed containers stored at 60–95°F (15–35°C)

·       Packaging: Available in 3-gallon and 15-gallon kits

·       Limitations: Do not dilute. Do not mix more than can be applied within the pot life. Cured material is difficult to clean.
