Description

Polyprime® 3042 is a two component, NSF-61 approved liquid applied epoxy primer. This primer has been developed for use on carbon steel, non-ferrous metal, fiberglass, PVC pipe, as well as concrete and masonry.

Material Use:

Polyprime 3042 – Two-Component Epoxy-Polyamide Primer

Polyprime 3042 is an NSF-61 approved, two-component, liquid-applied epoxy primer used to prepare and seal surfaces before applying topcoats. It is specifically designed for use on concrete, carbon steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, PVC, fiberglass, and other non-ferrous metals.

System Components:

This primer is typically used as the base layer in multi-coat systems involving protective or decorative coatings on industrial flooring and structural substrates. It pairs well with epoxy and polyurethane coatings that are compatible with epoxy primers. Specific topcoats are not mentioned in the TDS, but it is a standard base for Polycoat polyurea and polyurethane coatings.

Applications:

Polyprime 3042 is intended for use in demanding industrial environments including:

·       Chemical and pharmaceutical facilities

·       Food processing plants

·       Concrete decks and industrial flooring

·       Water and wastewater treatment plants

·       Power generation and petrochemical facilities

·       Steel structures and bridges

Application Details:

·       Mixing Ratio: 2 parts Side-A (grey) to 1 part Side-B (clear)

·       Application Methods: Airless spray, conventional spray, brush, or roller

·       Application Rate: 1 gallon per 300 square feet (approx. 300 ft²/gal)

·       Dry Film Thickness per Coat: 4.5 ± 1 mils

·       Pot Life: 20–30 minutes at 75°F (24°C) and 50% RH

·       Recoating Window: 2 to 36 hours depending on environmental conditions

·       Curing Sensitivity: Heat accelerates cure time; cold conditions slow it down—may require accelerator

·       Cleaning: Equipment should be cleaned with MEK, xylene, or similar solvents immediately after use

Limitations and Environmental Conditions:

·       Temperature Range for Application: 60–95°F (15–35°C)

·       Minimum Dew Point Differential: Must be at least 5°F (3°C) above dew point during application

·       Not UV Stable: Must be top-coated if UV resistance is required

·       Humidity: Surfaces must be completely dry and clean; moisture presence can compromise adhesion

·       Storage: 1-year shelf life in sealed containers stored at 60–95°F

Special Notes:

·       Polyprime 3042 must be applied to properly prepared surfaces using SSPC standards depending on the substrate (e.g., SP-6 for carbon steel, Galvaprep for galvanized steel).

·       It is essential to coat Polyprime 3042 within 36 hours of it becoming tack-free.

·       It contains epoxy resin and curatives—appropriate PPE and ventilation are required during application.

·       Avoid mixing more material than can be applied within its pot life.
