Description
Pro Industrial™ Acrylic is designed for interior and exterior industrial and commercial applications.
Material Use:
Pro Industrial Acrylic Matte is a high-performance, single-component, water-based styrene-acrylic coating designed for both interior and exterior use in commercial and industrial environments. It is ideal for applications requiring excellent adhesion, washability, and early flash rust resistance. The product is suitable for use in USDA-inspected facilities and offers a smooth, matte finish with low VOC content, making it compliant with a wide range of environmental regulations.
System Components:
Pro Industrial Acrylic Matte is typically used as a topcoat in a multi-layer coating system. Depending on the substrate, it is paired with various primers and fillers to ensure optimal adhesion and performance. The system may include:
- Primers: Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer, Pro Industrial DTM Primer/Finish, Pro Industrial Kem Bond HS, Zinc Clad Primer, Loxon Concrete & Masonry Primer, Loxon Conditioner, ProMar 200 Zero VOC Primer, Pro Industrial Bond-Plex Waterbased Acrylic, Pro Industrial DTM Bonding Primer, Exterior Wood Primer, Premium Wall & Wood Primer.
- Block Fillers: Pro Industrial Heavy Duty Block Filler, Loxon Acrylic Block Surfacer.
- Topcoat: 1–2 coats of Pro Industrial Acrylic Matte.
Applications:
This coating is suitable for a wide range of substrates including:
- Steel (with appropriate primer)
- Galvanized steel and aluminum
- Concrete and masonry (including CMU)
- Drywall and plaster
- Wood (interior and exterior)
- Pre-finished siding (baked-on finishes)
Application Details:
- Application Methods: Brush, roller, airless spray, or conventional spray. Use nylon-polyester brushes or 3/8" woven roller covers for best results. Airless spray requires 1500 psi pressure with a 0.017–0.021" tip.
- Film Thickness: Apply at 6.0–12.0 wet mils per coat, resulting in 2.5–4.9 dry mils.
- Coverage: 134–262 sq. ft. per gallon depending on substrate and application method. Theoretical coverage is 657 sq. ft. per gallon at 1 mil dry film thickness.
- Drying Time (at 7.0 wet mils, 50% RH):
- 50°F: Touch – 1 hr, Recoat – 8 hrs
- 77°F: Touch – 30 min, Recoat – 5 hrs
- 120°F: Touch – 5 min, Recoat – 15 min
- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component product).
- Cure Time: Full cure typically achieved after 7 days under standard conditions.
- Temperature & Humidity Limits: Apply only when air, surface, and material temperatures are between 50°F (10°C) and 120°F (49°C), and at least 5°F above the dew point. Maximum relative humidity is 85%.
- UV Resistance: The product is suitable for exterior use, indicating good UV resistance, though not explicitly labeled as UV stable.
- VOC Content: <50 g/L (0.42 lbs/gal), compliant with LEED v4/v4.1 and other environmental standards.
- Shelf Life: 36 months unopened.
Special Notes:
- For steel surfaces, a primer is strongly recommended to prevent pinpoint rusting.
- Deep and ultradeep base colors require a primer for optimal performance.
- Do not apply on wet surfaces or immediately after rain or during foggy conditions.
- Surface preparation is critical for performance; all substrates must be clean, dry, and properly profiled.
- For previously painted surfaces, adhesion testing is recommended before full application.
- The product has excellent adhesion (ASTM D4541: 1597 psi), corrosion resistance (ASTM D5894), and impact resistance (>176 in-lbs per ASTM D2794).
- Clean tools and equipment with soap and warm water immediately after use.
This product is ideal for commercial and industrial projects requiring a durable, low-sheen finish with excellent environmental compliance and broad substrate compatibility. It can be integrated into a complete Sherwin-Williams system tailored to specific substrate needs.
