Material Use:
Pro Industrial™ Heavy Duty Block Filler is a high-performance, commercial-grade acrylic latex block filler designed for use on precast concrete, concrete block, and cinder block substrates. It is suitable for both interior and exterior applications and is specifically formulated to fill porous masonry surfaces, providing a smooth, pinhole-free base for subsequent topcoats. It is ideal for use in commercial, institutional, and industrial environments, including USDA-inspected facilities.
System Components:
This block filler is typically used as a base coat in a multi-layer coating system. It must be topcoated for exterior applications and is compatible with a wide range of architectural and industrial topcoats. The system generally includes:
- Base Coat: 1 coat of Pro Industrial™ Heavy Duty Block Filler
- Topcoat (Architectural Options): 2 coats of A-100® Exterior Latex, Loxon® Masonry Coatings, SuperPaint® (Interior/Exterior), Duration® (Interior/Exterior), Emerald® (Interior/Exterior), ProClassic® Interior, or ProMar® Interior
- Topcoat (Industrial Options): 2 coats of Acrolon™ 218 Polyurethane, Hi-Solids Polyurethane, Pro Industrial™ Series, Epolon™ II Multi-Mil Epoxy, Industrial Enamels, Macropoxy® HS Epoxy, or Macropoxy® 646 HS Epoxy
Applications:
This product is used to prepare and level porous masonry surfaces such as concrete, CMU (concrete masonry units), split-face block, and cinder block. It is especially useful in environments where a smooth, uniform surface is required before applying high-performance coatings. It is not suitable for below-grade waterproofing or immersion service.
Application Details:
- Application Methods: Brush, roller, or airless spray (recommended tip size: 0.019–0.028 inch; pressure: 2300 psi)
- Surface Preparation: Substrates must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. Moisture content must be ≤15%, and pH must be between 6 and 9. For pH >9, use Loxon® Acrylic Block Surfacer instead.
- Film Thickness: 16–21 wet mils (8–10.5 dry mils)
- Coverage Rate: 75–100 sq. ft. per gallon
- Dry Time @ 77°F (25°C), 50% RH, 16 mils wet:
- To touch: 2 hours
- Recoat with itself: 1 hour
- Recoat with waterborne topcoat: 18 hours
- Recoat with solventborne topcoat: 72 hours
- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component, ready-to-use)
- Cure Time: Must be topcoated within 14 days for exterior use to prevent weathering degradation
- Temperature Range for Application: 50°F to 95°F (10°C to 35°C)
- Humidity Limitations: Avoid application to damp or wet surfaces
- UV Resistance: Must be topcoated for UV protection; not UV-stable on its own
- Shelf Life: 36 months (unopened)
Special Notes:
- Do not tint this product.
- Not suitable for use over existing coatings or on smooth, slick surfaces.
- For best results, apply two coats to ensure a uniform, pinhole-free surface, especially in wet or high-humidity areas.
- For exterior applications, ensure topcoat is applied within 14 days to prevent degradation.
- Not intended for use as a waterproofing or immersion-grade coating.
- Clean tools and equipment with soap and warm water immediately after use.
- Complies with major environmental and safety standards including LEED® v4 & v4.1, CARB, SCAQMD, and is EPD-NSF® Certified.
