Description
Intended for use over a wide variety of primers on properly prepared interior metal, wood, masonry, plaster, and drywall, Pro Industrial™ Pre-Catalyzed Waterbased Epoxy offers the adhesion, durability and resistance to stains and most cleaning solvents usually characteristic of two-component water-borne acrylic epoxy products.
Material Use:
Pro Industrial Pre-Catalyzed Waterbased Epoxy Eg-Shel is a high-performance, single-component, waterborne acrylic epoxy coating designed for interior use in institutional and commercial environments. It is ideal for high-maintenance areas requiring excellent adhesion, chemical resistance, and durability. This product is suitable for use in USDA-inspected facilities and is commonly used in hospitals, schools, kitchens, and dining areas.
System Components:
This coating system typically includes a primer appropriate to the substrate, followed by two coats of the Pro Industrial Pre-Catalyzed Epoxy. The system components vary depending on the substrate:
- Steel & Galvanized Steel: 1 coat Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer or Kem Bond HS, followed by 2 coats of Pre-Cat Epoxy.
- Aluminum: 1 coat Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer, followed by 2 coats of Pre-Cat Epoxy.
- Concrete Block (CMU): 1 coat Pro Industrial Heavy Duty Block Filler or Loxon Acrylic Block Surfacer, followed by 2 coats of Pre-Cat Epoxy.
- Concrete & Masonry: 1 coat Loxon Concrete & Masonry Primer or Loxon Conditioner, followed by 2 coats of Pre-Cat Epoxy.
- Drywall: 1 coat ProMar 200 Zero VOC Primer, followed by 1–2 coats of Pre-Cat Epoxy.
- Wood (Interior): 1 coat Premium Wall and Wood Primer, followed by 2 coats of Pre-Cat Epoxy.
Applications:
This product is intended for interior use only and is not suitable for floors or surfaces that are continuously wet or submerged, such as bathtubs, sinks, showers, or countertops. It is ideal for institutional and commercial settings where durability, chemical resistance, and ease of maintenance are critical.
Application Details:
- Application Methods: Brush, roller, or airless spray. Use nylon-polyester brushes or 1/4"–1/2" woven roller covers. For airless spray, use 1800–2700 psi pressure with a 0.015–0.021" tip and 60 mesh filter.
- Film Thickness: Recommended wet film thickness is 4.0 mils, resulting in a dry film thickness of 1.4 mils.
- Coverage: Approximately 400 sq. ft. per gallon at 4.0 wet mils. Theoretical coverage is 561 sq. ft. per gallon at 1 mil dry film thickness.
- Dry Time @ 77°F, 50% RH:
- To Touch: 1 hour
- To Recoat: 8 hours
- Maximum Recoat Time: 72 hours (must sand if exceeded)
- Full Cure: 5–7 days
- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component product).
- Temperature & Humidity Limits: Apply when air, surface, and material temperatures are between 50°F and 120°F, and at least 5°F above the dew point. Maximum relative humidity is 85%.
- VOC Content: Less than 50 g/L (0.42 lbs/gal), compliant with LEED v4/v4.1 and other environmental standards.
- UV Resistance: Not UV stable; interior use only.
- Shelf Life: 36 months unopened.
Special Notes:
- This product is mildew-resistant and contains agents to inhibit mildew growth on the coating surface.
- Not recommended for exterior use or on horizontal surfaces subject to foot traffic.
- If the coating dries for more than 72 hours before recoating, sanding is required to ensure adhesion.
- Darker colors may require longer cure times to achieve full adhesion.
- Excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals including acids, bases, alcohols, and oils.
- Stain resistance is excellent against common substances like mustard, grape juice, coffee, and ketchup, though limited against ink and lipstick.
- Surface preparation is critical for performance; follow SSPC standards for metal substrates and ICRI guidelines for concrete.
This product is best used as part of a complete Sherwin-Williams system tailored to the substrate, ensuring optimal performance in demanding interior environments.
