Applied to existing waterborne coatings and select solvent-based coatings, Pro Industrial™ Sher-Clear™ provides color and gloss protection over newly applied industrial water-borne coatings and select solvent-based coatings.
Material Use:
Pro Industrial™ Sher-Clear™ 1K is a one-component, waterborne acrylic clear coat designed to provide UV-resistant, semi-gloss protection over a variety of industrial coatings. It is primarily used as a protective topcoat to enhance gloss retention and extend the weathering performance of both waterborne and select solvent-based coatings. This clear coat is suitable for exterior applications and is ideal for use on surfaces such as storage tanks, piping, structural steel, signage, and decorative elements in environments like amusement parks. It is also approved for use in USDA-inspected facilities.
System Components:
This clear coat is used as a final protective layer in a multi-coat system. It is compatible with a range of base coats, including both acrylic and alkyd coatings. It does not require a separate primer when applied over compatible base coats. The system typically includes:
- Base Coat: One of the approved Pro Industrial acrylic or alkyd coatings (see below).
- Top Coat: Pro Industrial Sher-Clear™ 1K Clear Coat.

- Application Methods: Brush, roll, or spray (airless or conventional).
- Recommended Wet Film Thickness: 3.0 – 5.5 mils
- Recommended Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 1.1 – 2.0 mils per coat
- Coverage Rate: 286 – 527 sq. ft. per gallon depending on film thickness
- Theoretical Coverage: 572 sq. ft. per gallon at 1 mil DFT

Special Notes:
- Do not apply more than 2.0 mils dry film thickness per coat to avoid a cloudy or milky appearance.
- Do not tint this product.
- Always stir by hand before use; do not shake.
- When applying over previously painted surfaces, ensure compatibility by testing a small area and allowing it to cure for one week before evaluating adhesion.
- Application of this clear coat may alter the appearance of the base color; a test patch is recommended.
- Not LEED v4 emissions certified, but compliant with VOC limits for LEED v4 and v4.1.
- Clean tools and equipment with soap and warm water immediately after use.
- Do not use hydrocarbon solvents for surface preparation.
- For mildew removal, use a bleach solution (1 part bleach to 3 parts water), rinse thoroughly, and allow to dry before application.
This product is ideal for use as a UV-resistant, semi-gloss clear topcoat in protective and decorative exterior coating systems, particularly where fast dry times and good gloss retention are required.
