Description

SETFAST® Premium Alkyd Zone Marking Paint is a conventional dry (non-heat applied) solvent based zone marking paint.

Material Use:

Setfast® Premium Alkyd Zone Marking Paint is a fast-drying, solvent-based, conventional dry (non-heat applied) traffic and zone marking paint. It is designed for high-visibility striping and marking on cured asphalt, concrete, and brick surfaces. This product is ideal for use in parking lots, curbs, runways, and other paved areas requiring clear, durable markings.

System Components:

This is a single-component system requiring no primer or topcoat. It is applied as a one-coat system directly to the prepared substrate. Glass beads may be added to the wet paint surface to create reflective markings. No base coat or final coat is required or recommended.

Applications:

Setfast® Premium Alkyd Zone Marking Paint is suitable for use in a variety of commercial, municipal, and institutional settings, including apartment communities, shopping centers, schools and universities, municipalities, airfields, and by pavement striping contractors. It is specifically formulated for marking lines, curbs, and other traffic control indicators on cured asphalt, concrete, and brick.

Application Details:

- Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be clean, dry, and sound. Remove oil, dust, grease, dirt, and any loose material. New asphalt should be allowed to age for several months before application. If painting on new asphalt is necessary, apply no more than 8 wet mils (approx. 200 sq. ft./gal) to avoid lifting.

- Application Method: Can be applied using airless or conventional spray line stripers, brush, or roller. For airless spray, use 1800–2700 psi with a 0.015–0.017 inch tip. For conventional spray, use Binks 21 gun with #68 fluid nozzle and #709 air nozzle.

- Mixing: Mix thoroughly before use with low-speed mechanical agitation. White can be tinted with Maxitoner or GIC Colorant.

- Film Thickness: Apply at 15 wet mils (7.5–7.7 dry mils) for White and Yellow. For new asphalt, limit to 8 wet mils.

- Coverage: Approximately 320–350 linear feet of 4-inch stripe per gallon. Theoretical coverage is 802–818 sq. ft./gal (White-Yellow), with practical coverage around 107 sq. ft./gal.

- Dry Time @ 77°F (25°C), 50% RH:

- Dry-no-pickup: 20 minutes

- Dry to touch: 20 minutes

- Full cure time not specified; dependent on environmental conditions and film thickness.

Special Notes:

- Temperature & Humidity Limits: Apply only when air, surface, and material temperatures are between 40°F (4.5°C) and 110°F (43°C), and at least 5°F above the dew point. Maximum relative humidity is 85%.

- Pot Life: Not applicable; single-component solvent-based product.

- UV Resistance: Not specified; however, as a zone marking paint, it is expected to have moderate UV resistance suitable for outdoor use.

- VOC Content:

- White: 382 g/L (3.19 lb/gal)

- Yellow: 366 g/L (3.05 lb/gal)

- Red: 349 g/L (2.91 lb/gal)

- Black: 391 g/L (3.26 lb/gal)

Not compliant with OTC, CARB, or LEED VOC limits.

- Shelf Life: 12 months unopened. Store indoors between 40°F (4.5°C) and 100°F (38°C).

- Limitations: Not intended for use as a floor paint or for large pedestrian areas due to potential slipperiness when wet. Do not apply on wet surfaces or during foggy weather. Excessive film build may cause lifting, especially on new asphalt. Avoid excessive thinning, which can affect film build and adhesion.

- Reflective Markings: Can be made reflective by applying glass beads to the wet paint.

- Cleanup: Use VM&P Naphtha or compliant solvent. Clean tools and equipment immediately after use.

Performance Tips:

- Always test adhesion on new or previously coated surfaces.

- Avoid painting immediately after rain or in high humidity.

- For new asphalt, apply a test stripe to confirm readiness.

- Excessive film thickness can lead to poor performance, especially on uncured asphalt.

- Painted surfaces may become slippery when wet; avoid use in high foot-traffic areas.

This product is best used as a standalone marking paint for cured asphalt and concrete surfaces, and does not require a multi-layer system. It is not compatible with waterborne paints in the same equipment without thorough cleaning.
