Applied to existing waterborne coatings and select solvent-based coatings, Sher-Clear™ provides color and gloss protection over newly applied industrial water-borne coatings and select solvent-based coatings.

Sher-Clear™ is a one-component (1K), waterborne, UV-resistant acrylic clear coat designed to provide gloss and color protection over newly applied or existing industrial waterborne coatings and select solvent-based coatings. It is primarily used as a protective topcoat to extend the weathering properties of base coatings in exterior environments.

Sher-Clear™ is used as a final clear coat in a multi-layer coating system. It is compatible with a variety of base coats, including both waterborne acrylics and certain alkyds. It does not require a separate primer when applied over compatible coatings but must be applied over a properly prepared and sound surface. It is not to be tinted and should be hand-stirred before use.

Sher-Clear™ is recommended for exterior use on:

- Equipment and machinery

- Exterior storage tanks

- Piping and structural steel

- Corporate logos and signage

- Amusement park structures

- USDA-inspected facilities (suitable for use)

- Application Methods: Brush, roll, or spray (airless or conventional)

- Recommended Wet Film Thickness: 3.0 – 5.5 mils

- Recommended Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 1.1 – 2.0 mils per coat

- Maximum DFT per coat: 2.0 mils (exceeding this may result in a cloudy or milky appearance)

- Coverage: 296 – 539 sq. ft. per gallon (based on application thickness); theoretical coverage is 593 sq. ft. per gallon at 1 mil DFT

- Reducer: Water (up to 10% by volume if needed)

- Spray Equipment: Airless (1500 psi, 0.013–0.015" tip) or conventional spray (Binks 95, 66 fluid nozzle, 63 PB air nozzle)

- Brush/Roller: Nylon-polyester brush or 1/4–3/8" woven roller with solvent-resistant core

Compatible Base Coats:

Sher-Clear™ is designed to be applied over the following coatings:

- Acrylics: Bond-Plex Waterbased Acrylic, Metalatex Semi-Gloss, Pro Industrial Acrylic, Pro Industrial DTM Acrylic, Pro Industrial Multi-Surface Acrylic, Sher-Cryl, SprayLastic

- Alkyds: Industrial Enamel, Industrial Enamel HS, Pro Industrial Urethane Alkyd, Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd-Urethane, Steel Master 9500

Note: Do not apply over white or very light pastel-colored alkyds due to potential discoloration or poor appearance.

Environmental and Application Limitations:

- Temperature Range for Application: Minimum 50°F (10°C), Maximum 120°F (49°C); air, surface, and material must be at least 5°F above dew point

- Relative Humidity Limit: Maximum 85%

- Pot Life: Not applicable (1K product)

- Drying Times at 3.0 mils wet, 50% RH:

- Touch: 45 minutes @ 77°F

- Handle: 1 hour @ 77°F

- Recoat: 2 hours @ 77°F

- Full Cure: 14 days @ 77°F (longer at lower temperatures)

- UV Resistance: UV-resistant (suitable for exterior exposure)

- Shelf Life: 12 months unopened

- Do not apply over coatings exceeding 2.0 mils dry film thickness per coat to avoid cloudiness.

- Always test compatibility with existing coatings by applying a 2–3 sq. ft. test patch and allowing it to cure for one week before evaluating adhesion.

- Clear coats may alter the appearance of the base color; test patches are recommended.

- Do not use over white or very light pastel alkyds.

- Clean tools and equipment with soap and warm water immediately after use.

- Not LEED® v4 & v4.1 Emissions certified but compliant with VOC regulations including OTC, CARB, and SCAQMD.

Sher-Clear™ is a versatile, fast-drying, and UV-resistant clear coat ideal for protecting a wide range of industrial and architectural surfaces. It is best used as a final protective layer in a system built on compatible acrylic or alkyd base coats, especially in exterior environments where gloss retention and weather resistance are critical.
