Description

Epoxy Primer and Binder

Sikafloor®-156 CA is a two-component, solvent-free, low-viscosity, high-strength, epoxy resin, used as an epoxy primer and binder for Sikafloor® Systems.

  • Low viscosity ensures excellent penetration and adhesion
  • High mechanical resistance
  • User friendly mix ratio = 3:1 (parts by volume)

Material Use:

Sikafloor®-156 CA is a two-component, solvent-free, low-viscosity, high-strength epoxy resin primarily used as a primer and binder in Sikafloor® epoxy and polyurethane flooring systems. It functions as an adhesion promoter and binder for epoxy mortar screeds and for bonding Sika® mortars to a variety of substrates.

System Components:

  • Sikafloor®-156 CA is typically used as a primer in Sikafloor® Systems.
  • May be thickened with Sikafloor® Extender T or quartz flour.
  • Compatible with other Sika products: Sikafloor®-1610, Sikafloor®-81 EpoCem®CA for high moisture content substrates, and Sikagard®-75 EpoCem®CA for vertical and overhead applications.

Applications:

  • Suitable for indoor floor applications requiring high mechanical strength and good adhesion.
  • Ideal for use under epoxy and polyurethane topcoats, or as a binder in epoxy mortar installations.
  • May be used in food-grade environments as it meets CFIA and USDA standards.

Application Details:

  • Mix Ratio: 3:1 by volume (A:B)
  • Pot Life: At 20 °C (68 °F): ~40 minutes in pot; ~45 minutes on substrate.
  • Curing Time: Foot traffic after ~12 hours, full cure for chemical exposure in ~7 days at 20 °C.
  • Waiting Time for Overcoating: Min. 8 hours, max. 48 hours at 20 °C.
  • Coverage: 4 m²/L (160 ft²/US gal) at 10 mil wet film thickness.
  • Installation Temperature Range: Ambient and substrate temp. must be between 10 °C and 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F). Product should be conditioned between 18 °C and 30 °C before use.
  • Humidity Limit: Max. 85% relative humidity during application and curing. Substrate must be ≥3 °C above dew point.
  • Moisture Content Limit: Concrete substrate must be ≤4% (pbw) as measured by a Tramex® CME/CMExpert meter. Use Sikafloor®-1610 or EpoCem® systems if higher.
  • UV Resistance: Surface may discolor with UV exposure; not fully UV stable.
  • Thickness: Recommended at 10 mils wet film thickness.
  • Flammability: Passes ASTM D635 with ~55 mm flame spread.
  • Compressive Strength: ~41 MPa (5946 psi)
  • Tensile Strength: ~36 MPa (5221 psi)

Special Notes:

  • Not suitable for substrates with active moisture/vapour drive or ASR-reactive aggregates.
  • Not recommended for exterior slabs exposed to freeze/thaw cycles.
  • Avoid use of direct-fired gas/kerosene heaters due to curing issues.
  • Proper mechanical mixing is essential; do not thin or hand mix.
  • Application must avoid rising temperatures to prevent pinholes.

This primer is best utilized in controlled indoor environments and forms the foundational layer of Sikafloor® systems, especially where high durability and adhesion are required.
