Material Use:
SOPRA-FOAM BIG GAP FILLER is a single-component, moisture-cured polyurethane foam designed for both interior and exterior use. It is primarily used for filling, sealing, and insulating large gaps, cracks, and openings ranging from 25 mm to 76 mm (1 to 3 inches). The foam provides an airtight and water-resistant seal, making it ideal for energy-saving applications and for blocking drafts around wiring, plumbing, and HVAC ducts.
System Components:
This product is a standalone system and does not require additional primers or base coats. It is applied directly from the cartridge using the included straw applicator. For cleaning uncured foam, SOPRA-FOAM CL-F cleaner is recommended. Once cured, the foam must be removed manually.
Applications:
SOPRA-FOAM BIG GAP FILLER is suitable for use on a wide range of substrates including vinyl, wood, metal, polystyrene, and polyisocyanurate. It is also compatible with SOPREMA’s SOPRASEAL membranes and RESISTO’s smooth-surface membranes, such as those used around doors and windows. It is ideal for sealing large penetrations in building envelopes, such as around pipes, ducts, and electrical conduits.
Application Details:
- Application Method: Straw applicator (included with cartridge)
- Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, and loose particles. Porous surfaces should be lightly moistened with water to aid curing.
- Layering: In dry conditions, apply in multiple thin layers (≤ 25 mm or 1 inch) to allow proper expansion and curing.
- Curing System: Moisture-cured
- Tack-Free Time: Approximately 7 ± 3 minutes (at 23 °C and 50% RH)
- Trim Time: ≤ 40 minutes
- Full Cure Time: 24 hours
- Service Temperature Range (after cure): -40 °C to 80 °C (-40 °F to 176 °F)
- Application Temperature Range: 5 °C to 30 °C (41 °F to 86 °F); for best results, condition the cartridge to 20 °C (68 °F) for 12 hours prior to use
- Yield: Approximately 19 L per 400 ml cartridge and 38 L per 600 ml cartridge
- UV Resistance: Not UV stable; cured foam will discolor and degrade when exposed to UV rays. It is recommended to paint or coat the foam for outdoor applications.
- Storage: Store upright in a dry location, out of direct sunlight, at 5 °C to 25 °C (41 °F to 77 °F). Shelf life is 18 months in unopened packaging.
Special Notes:
- Not suitable for use on silicone or PTFE substrates.
- Not intended for use in fire-rated assemblies or where fire-retardant materials are required.
- For best results in outdoor applications, the cured foam should be painted or coated to protect it from UV degradation.
- Expansion and curing rates may vary depending on ambient temperature and humidity.
- Always consult the most recent Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for safe handling and disposal practices.
