Description
SOPRA VI membrane is composed of a glass mat reinforcement coated with oxidized bitumen.
UNITS PER SID: 25
Material Use:
SOPRA VI is a bituminous roofing membrane designed for use in Built-Up Roofing (B.U.R.) systems. It serves as a base or interply sheet and can also be used in combination with SBS-modified bitumen membranes to enhance waterproofing performance. It is particularly suited for commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofing applications.
System Components:
SOPRA VI is composed of a glass mat reinforcement saturated with oxidized bitumen. It is typically used in multi-layer roofing systems, either as a base sheet or intermediate ply. When used in combination with SBS-modified bitumen membranes, SOPRA VI acts as a reinforcing layer to improve the overall durability and waterproofing of the system. The system requires the use of hot-applied bitumen for installation, which acts as both the adhesive and waterproofing agent.
Applications:
SOPRA VI is intended for use in B.U.R. roofing systems and hybrid systems that combine traditional bituminous felts with SBS-modified membranes. It is suitable for new construction and re-roofing projects on commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. It is not intended for exposed applications and must be covered with additional plies or a protective cap sheet.
Application Details:
SOPRA VI is installed using hot bitumen, which is mopped onto the substrate before unrolling the membrane into place. The membrane must be fully embedded in the hot bitumen to ensure proper adhesion and waterproofing. The product is not self-adhered and requires professional installation with appropriate safety measures for handling hot bitumen. The rolls should be stored upright and protected from UV exposure and moisture prior to installation.
Special Notes:
- SOPRA VI meets the requirements of CSA A123.17 and ASTM D2178 - Type VI.
- The membrane is not UV stable and must be covered with additional layers or a UV-resistant cap sheet.
- The product has a nominal weight of 0.3 kg/m² (0.06 lb/ft²) and dimensions of 54 m x 0.914 m (177 ft x 3 ft).
- It has a breaking strength of 11.9/11.4 kN/m (68/65 lbf/in) and a pliability rating that passes ASTM D2178.
- SOPRA VI should be installed in dry weather conditions, and the substrate must be clean and dry.
- The product does not have a specified pot life or curing time, as it is not a reactive or liquid-applied material.
- Storage should be in a dry, shaded area, and rolls must be kept upright with the selvedge side on top to prevent deformation.
SOPRA VI is best used as part of a multi-layer roofing system where durability, fire resistance, and waterproofing are critical. It is compatible with other SOPREMA SBS-modified membranes and should be installed by experienced roofing professionals using hot bitumen techniques.
