SOPRA-XPS 20 is a rigid thermal insulation board made of extruded polystyrene (XPS) with closed-cell foam structure. It is primarily used for thermal insulation in above-grade wall assemblies, interior foundation walls, and under concrete slabs in residential and commercial construction. The product is designed to provide long-term thermal resistance and moisture resistance in building envelope applications.

SOPRA-XPS 20 is typically used as part of a wall or foundation insulation system. It can be installed in combination with SOPREMA’s self-adhering flashing membranes such as SOPRASEAL STICK FLASHPRO or ALL-WEATHER BUTYL FLASHING TAPE, which are applied over panel joints to enhance air and moisture sealing. When used in wall assemblies, it must be paired with a thermal barrier to comply with building code fire safety requirements due to its combustible nature.

SOPRA-XPS 20 is suitable for use in the following applications:

- Above-grade wall insulation in SOPREMA wall systems

- Interior insulation of foundation walls

- Exterior insulation of residential foundation walls

- Under-slab insulation in residential and light commercial buildings

SOPRA-XPS 20 boards are installed mechanically using fasteners and 50 mm (2 in) diameter washers. Fasteners should be placed at 150 mm (6 in) intervals along the board perimeter and 305 mm (12 in) on center both horizontally and vertically. For multi-layer applications, boards should be installed with staggered joints. The product is available in various edge configurations: butt edges on four sides, shiplap on two sides, and shiplap on four sides. Board dimensions include 2438 mm x 1220 mm (8 ft x 4 ft) and 2743 mm x 1220 mm (9 ft x 4 ft), with thicknesses ranging from 25 mm (1 in) to 100 mm (4 in).

- Thermal Resistance (LTTR): R-values range from R-5.39 (25 mm) to R-22.49 (100 mm), depending on thickness.

- Compressive Strength: 140 kPa (20 psi), suitable for applications with light to moderate loads.

- Water Absorption: Very low, with a maximum of 0.1% by volume (ASTM C272).

- Water Vapour Permeance: 0.66 perms for 25 mm thickness.

- Flame Spread Rating: >25 and <500 per CAN/ULC-S102.2; must be used with a thermal barrier.

- Maximum Service Temperature: 75°C (167°F).

- UV Exposure Limit: Should not be exposed to UV rays for more than 60 days; must be protected if stored outdoors.

- Environmental Impact: Contains no CFCs, HCFCs, or HFC-134a; zero ozone depletion potential and very low global warming potential (GWP of 1). GREENGUARD GOLD certified.

- Storage and Handling: Store flat in original packaging. If packaging is removed, cover with opaque protective sheeting. Keep away from flames and high heat sources.
