Material Use:
SOPRABOARD is a durable, asphaltic support and protection panel designed for use in low-slope roofing systems, foundation waterproofing, and plaza deck applications. It serves as a substrate for roofing membranes and as a protection board for below-grade waterproofing systems. SOPRABOARD is compatible with both modified bitumen and built-up roofing (B.U.R.) systems and can be used in conjunction with hot-applied, cold-applied, or self-adhesive membrane systems.
System Components:
SOPRABOARD is typically used as part of a roofing or waterproofing system that includes:
- Modified bitumen membranes (torch-applied, hot-mopped, or adhesive-applied)
- Self-adhesive membranes (with appropriate primer)
- DUOTACK adhesives (for cold-applied systems)
- SEBS hot bitumen (for hot-applied systems)
- Mechanical fasteners (for steel deck applications)
Applications:
SOPRABOARD is suitable for:
- Low-slope roofing systems as a support panel over plywood or rigid insulation
- Below-grade foundation walls as a protection board for waterproofing membranes
- Plaza decks as part of a protected membrane assembly
Application Details:
SOPRABOARD can be installed using several methods depending on the system design:
- Hot Bitumen Application: Installed in a bed of SEBS hot bitumen applied at a minimum temperature of 220 °C (425 °F).
- Adhesive Application: Adhered using DUOTACK adhesives for cold-applied systems.
- Mechanical Fastening: Fastened to steel decks using screws and stress plates, typically in insulation systems.
- When used with self-adhesive membranes, an appropriate primer must be applied to the board surface to ensure adhesion.
- The darker side of the board must face outward when used as a protection board for waterproofing membranes.
Special Notes:
- SOPRABOARD must be covered promptly after installation and should not be left exposed to the elements.
- It is available in three thicknesses: 3.2 mm (1/8 in), 4.8 mm (3/16 in), and 6.4 mm (1/4 in), with corresponding weights of 0.90 lb/ft², 1.41 lb/ft², and 1.90 lb/ft².
- The product meets CSA A123.25 standards and offers high puncture resistance (500 N), low water absorption (2.5%), and excellent compressive strength (up to 11,100 kPa or 1,610 psi).
- SOPRABOARD is not UV stable and must be protected by a membrane or other covering layer.
- Storage must be on a flat surface, protected from weather, and covered with an opaque material if stored outdoors.
This material is ideal for integration into comprehensive waterproofing and roofing systems where a robust, compatible support or protection layer is required.
