Description
SOPRAFLOR I is a growing medium formulated according to the requirements and criteria of the German FLL, for intensive and semi-intensive SOPRANATURE green roofs and roof gardens.
Material Use:
SOPRAFLOR I is a high-performance growing medium specifically designed for use in intensive and semi-intensive green roofs, plaza decks, and roof gardens. It is formulated to meet the stringent requirements of the German FLL guidelines, ensuring optimal performance in vegetative roofing systems. This substrate supports a wide range of plant types, including wildflower meadows, grasses, perennials, annuals, small shrubs, and other vegetation with medium to high water needs.
System Components:
SOPRAFLOR I is typically used as part of the SOPRANATURE green roofing system. It functions as the growing medium layer and is installed over drainage and filter layers, which may include SOPRANATURE drainage boards and geotextiles. Enrichment products such as fertilizers or soil conditioners may be incorporated into the substrate during installation to enhance plant growth.
Applications:
This material is ideal for green roof systems in both commercial and residential construction, particularly where intensive or semi-intensive vegetation is desired. It is suitable for use in rooftop gardens, landscaped plaza decks, and other elevated green spaces that require a robust and nutrient-rich growing medium.
Application Details:
SOPRAFLOR I is installed by spreading the substrate evenly across the designated area using a rake. It should be watered thoroughly until fully saturated to ensure proper settling and moisture availability for plant roots. The product is available in various packaging formats depending on the region: 1.5 yd³ totes and bulk in Western Canada, 2.5 yd³ totes and bulk in Eastern Canada, and 1 yd³ totes and bulk in Ontario.
Special Notes:
- SOPRAFLOR I has been tested in accordance with ASTM E2397 and ASTM E2399, as well as the Mehlich III extraction method for nutrient content.
- The composition includes mineral aggregates, professional-grade peat, sand, and composted vegetable matter.
- Water retention capacity ranges from 46.3% to 51.4%, depending on the regional formulation.
- Air porosity varies from 9.4% to 15.9%, supporting adequate root aeration.
- The pH level is near neutral (6.8 to 7.0), suitable for a wide range of plant species.
- Organic matter content ranges from 10.4% to 12.4%, and mineral content ranges from 34% to 55%.
- Density varies by region and moisture content, with dry densities ranging from 690 to 967 kg/m³ and saturated densities from 1190 to 1480 kg/m³.
- This material is not a liquid and does not have pot life, curing time, or temperature limitations typical of coatings or repair materials.
- SOPRAFLOR I is a non-UV-sensitive material as it is intended to be covered by vegetation.
This material is a critical component of vegetative roofing systems and should be used in conjunction with compatible SOPRANATURE system elements for optimal performance and longevity.
