Description
Base sheet membrane adhered with hot bitumen composed of a non-woven polyester reinforcement and SBS modified bitumen.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
SOPRALENE 180 SANDED is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing and waterproofing systems. It is primarily used as a base ply in roofing assemblies, offering excellent mechanical strength, flexibility, and waterproofing capabilities.
System Components:
SOPRALENE 180 SANDED is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is designed to be installed with compatible adhesives or hot bitumen and is often paired with a cap sheet such as SOPRALENE 250 GR or similar granulated SBS-modified bitumen membranes. The system may also include a primer (such as SOPRAPRIME) applied to the substrate to enhance adhesion, especially when using cold adhesives.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofing systems. It is ideal for new construction and re-roofing projects where a durable, flexible, and weather-resistant base layer is required. SOPRALENE 180 SANDED is compatible with both adhered and hot-applied installation methods.
Application Details:
SOPRALENE 180 SANDED can be installed using either cold adhesive or hot bitumen. When using adhesive, it is applied with a notched squeegee, and the membrane is rolled into place, followed by pressure application with a membrane roller to ensure full adhesion. End laps require additional adhesive application (100–125 mm or 4–5 in) and must be heat-welded (25–50 mm or 1–2 in) using a hot-air torch. Side laps must also be heat-welded, and the use of an automatic hot-air welder is recommended for improved efficiency and seal quality. When using hot bitumen (SEBS or oxidized), the membrane is unrolled directly into the bitumen bed applied with a mop.
Special Notes:
- Reinforcement: Non-woven polyester, providing excellent dimensional stability and mechanical strength.
- Surface Finish: Both top and bottom surfaces are sanded, allowing for strong adhesion in multi-ply systems.
- Dimensions: Each roll measures 10 m x 1 m (33 ft x 3.3 ft), with a 75 mm (3 in) selvedge for lap joints.
- Thickness: Minimum thickness is 3.0 mm (118 mils) before heat conditioning and 2.2 mm (85 mils) after.
- Temperature Resistance: Compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F); low-temperature flexibility down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F).
- UV Resistance: This base sheet is not UV stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover.
- Installation Conditions: While specific humidity and temperature limits during installation are not provided, standard SBS membrane application guidelines suggest avoiding installation during heavy rain or when temperatures are below 5 °C (41 °F) unless special cold-weather adhesives are used.
- Coverage: Each roll covers approximately 10 m² (107.6 ft²), not accounting for overlaps.
SOPRALENE 180 SANDED is a robust and versatile base sheet membrane that forms the foundation of a durable SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It must be used in conjunction with a compatible cap sheet and appropriate adhesives or hot bitumen to ensure long-term performance and weather resistance.
