SOPRALENE MAMMOUTH GR is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing and waterproofing systems. It is primarily used as the top layer in a torch-applied roofing system, providing long-term protection against water infiltration and environmental exposure.
System Components:
SOPRALENE MAMMOUTH GR is typically used as the cap sheet in a multi-ply SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed over a compatible base sheet such as SOPRALENE FLAM 180 or SOPRASTAR BASE, which are also SBS-modified membranes. The system may also include a primer such as ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL 500 for improved adhesion to the substrate, especially on concrete or metal decks. The underface of SOPRALENE MAMMOUTH GR is covered with a thermofusible plastic film, allowing it to be heat-welded directly to the base sheet or substrate.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in commercial, industrial, and institutional roofing applications where a durable, granule-surfaced, torch-applied waterproofing layer is required. It is ideal for both new construction and re-roofing projects. SOPRALENE MAMMOUTH GR is designed for use in flat or low-slope roofing systems.
Application Details:
SOPRALENE MAMMOUTH GR is installed using a propane torch in a heat-welded application. The membrane is rolled out and heated on the underside until the thermofusible film melts, allowing it to bond to the substrate or base sheet. The membrane includes a 100 mm (4 in) selvedge edge to ensure proper overlap and sealing between rolls. The recommended installation temperature range is above -18 °C (0 °F), as the membrane maintains flexibility and performance at low temperatures. The membrane should not be installed during heavy rain or when the substrate is wet or frozen.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: The membrane has a nominal thickness of 5.0 mm (197 mils) before heat conditioning and 3.3 mm (130 mils) after heat conditioning.
- Coverage: Each roll measures 8 m x 1 m (26 ft x 3.3 ft), covering approximately 8 m² (86 ft²) per roll, not accounting for overlaps.
- UV Resistance: The granule-surfaced finish provides UV resistance, making it suitable for exposed applications.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover to prevent UV degradation before installation.
- Performance: The membrane meets CSA A123.23 Type B, Grade 1 standards and demonstrates excellent mechanical properties, including high tensile strength, elongation, and puncture resistance.
- Limitations: Not suitable for cold adhesive or self-adhered applications. Must be installed by trained professionals using appropriate safety measures for torch-applied systems.
