Material Use:
SOPRASEAL LM 204 VP is a single-component, liquid-applied, vapour-permeable air barrier membrane designed for above-grade wall assemblies. It is formulated with water-reactive elastomers and provides a fire-resistant, seamless barrier against air leakage while allowing moisture vapour to escape. This product is ideal for use behind exterior claddings such as brick, siding, metal panels, EIFS, and stucco (with a drainage plane).
System Components:
SOPRASEAL LM 204 VP is typically used in conjunction with SOPRASEAL LIQUID FLASHING and SOPRASEAL STICK FLASHPRO HT to create a complete air barrier system. SOPRASEAL LIQUID FLASHING is used to treat joints, voids, and penetrations prior to the application of the main membrane. SOPRASEAL STICK FLASHPRO HT is used around openings to ensure continuity of the air barrier system.
Applications:
This product is suitable for use on a variety of substrates including masonry, concrete, wood, and gypsum sheathing. It is intended for above-grade applications only and should not be used below grade or on surfaces subject to water immersion. It is especially effective in commercial and residential wall assemblies requiring a vapour-permeable air barrier.
Application Details:
SOPRASEAL LM 204 VP can be applied using spray equipment, roller, or brush. Spray application is preferred for achieving the required thickness in a single coat. The target wet film thickness is 0.9 mm (36 mils), which corresponds to a coverage rate of approximately 43 ft² per gallon. When applied with a roller, two coats may be necessary to achieve the desired thickness. A notched gauge should be used to verify wet film thickness. All additional coats must be applied within 72 hours of the initial application. The product cures fully in approximately 3.5 hours at 24 °C (75 °F) and 50% relative humidity.
Special Notes:
- Primers/Base Coats: SOPRASEAL LIQUID FLASHING is used as a preparatory base treatment for joints and voids before applying SOPRASEAL LM 204 VP.
- Final Coat: SOPRASEAL LM 204 VP serves as the final membrane layer in the air barrier system.
- Pot Life: Not applicable, as this is a single-component product.
- Curing Time: Approximately 3.5 hours at 24 °C (75 °F) and 50% RH.
- Full Cure Time: Same as curing time; 3.5 hours under standard conditions.
- Application Temperature Range: Minimum ambient and substrate temperature must be maintained at or above 4 °C (40 °F) during application and curing. The product can be applied in ambient temperatures as low as -4 °C (25 °F), but curing must occur at 4 °C or higher.
- UV Resistance: The product is UV resistant for up to 180 days, allowing for temporary exposure before cladding installation.
- Thickness Limits: Recommended wet film thickness is 0.9 mm (36 mils). This is the target application thickness and should not be exceeded or reduced significantly.
- Coverage Rate: Approximately 43 ft² per gallon at 36 mils wet film thickness.
- Storage: Store above 4 °C (40 °F) in original sealed containers. Shelf life is 12 months for 19 L pails and 6 months for 189 L drums.
- Cleaning: Clean tools and equipment with alcohol or water-free solvents such as mineral spirits, Varsol, or xylene before the product hardens.
