Description

Self-adhesive vapour barrier membrane composed of a tri-laminated woven polyethylene facer and SBS modified bitumen.

UNITS PER SKID: 25

Material Use:

SOPRAVAP’R is a self-adhesive vapour barrier membrane designed for use in insulated roofing systems. It is composed of SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) modified bitumen and features a tri-laminated woven polyethylene facer. The underface is protected with a silicone release film, allowing for easy installation. SOPRAVAP’R is specifically engineered to control the passage of water vapour and air, contributing to the overall energy efficiency and durability of the roofing assembly.

System Components:

SOPRAVAP’R is used as part of a roofing system and is typically installed directly over structural substrates such as steel, concrete, plywood, gypsum or cement boards, and asphaltic panels. When installed over any substrate other than steel, a primer is required. The recommended primers are ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL STICK ZERO. These primers enhance adhesion and ensure long-term performance. SOPRAVAP’R is not compatible with hot bitumen applications and should not be used in systems where hot bitumen will be applied over it.

Applications:

SOPRAVAP’R is intended for use as a vapour barrier in roofing systems, particularly in insulated roof assemblies. It is suitable for both new construction and retrofit projects. The membrane is especially effective when installed directly over steel decks, where it also contributes to fire resistance in accordance with CAN/ULC-S126 standards. It is not recommended for use as a temporary roofing membrane.

Application Details:

SOPRAVAP’R is applied by removing the silicone release film and adhering the membrane directly to the prepared substrate. Side laps must be a minimum of 75 mm (3 in), and end laps must be at least 150 mm (6 in). For steel deck applications, end laps must be supported by a metal plate measuring 15 cm x 106 cm (6 in x 42 in). After installation, the membrane must be rolled to ensure full adhesion. The minimum application temperature is -10 °C (14 °F). The membrane has a nominal thickness of 0.8 mm (31 mil) and is supplied in rolls measuring 40.8 m x 1.14 m (134 ft x 3.7 ft), with a net coverage of 43.5 m² (468 ft²) per roll.

Special Notes:

SOPRAVAP’R is UV-sensitive and should be covered as soon as possible after installation to prevent degradation from UV exposure and construction traffic. While it may be left exposed temporarily during construction, proper drainage and slope must be ensured to prevent water accumulation. The product must be stored upright and protected from direct sunlight if stored outdoors. SOPRAVAP’R exhibits excellent mechanical properties, including high tensile strength (9.5 / 12 kN/m), low temperature flexibility (< -30 °C), and strong lap adhesion, especially when used with primer (up to 1000 N/m). It also offers superior resistance to air and vapour transmission, with a water vapour permeance of < 2.5 ng/Pa·s·m² and air permeability of < 0.001 L/s·m².

This product is best used in conjunction with SOPREMA’s ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL STICK ZERO primers and should be integrated into a complete SOPREMA roofing system for optimal performance.
