Description
Two-Component Elastomeric Sealant
TrafficGuard JS – Two-Component Elastomeric Sealant. TrafficGuard JS is primarily used as a crack and joint filler for concrete and asphalt surfaces. Its formulation is designed to deliver high performance in sealing expansion joints and random cracks on roadways, bridge decks, parking structures, precast elements, industrial floors, and submerged structures. It is suitable for both above- and below-grade applications.
TrafficGuard JS is a two-component elastomeric system comprised of isocyanate and polyol resin components. It may be applied using a plural component pump, hand-mixing setup, or cartridge gun. The system does not require primers for concrete, steel, or wood, and exhibits excellent cohesive bonding characteristics with each.
The sealant is used in:
· Concrete and asphalt roadways
· Bridge and parking decks
· Industrial and manufacturing floors
· Precast and submerged structures
· Expansion and control joints in both new and aged concrete
· Preparation: Surface must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Chipping, blasting, or sawing to fresh concrete is recommended. A vacuum should be used to clear debris.
· Mixing & Equipment: Applied via 1:1 plural component pump, hand-mix, or cartridges. Hose heating is optional at ambient temperatures above 70°F.
· Gel Time: <5 minutes
· Tack-Free Time: <10 minutes
· Open to Traffic: <30 minutes
· Installation Temperature Range: 20°F to 150°F
· Pot Life / Reaction Time: Approximately 4 minutes at 75°F
· Storage Temperature: Recommended 60°F–80°F; tolerates down to 10°F without component gelation.
· UV Resistance: TrafficGuard JS is an aromatic elastomer that may yellow and chalk under UV or mercury vapor light exposure. Not UV-stable for aesthetic finishes; use dark colors or contact the manufacturer for color-stable options.
· Abrasion & Chemical Resistance: Highly resistant to abrasion and chemical attack; passed saltwater spray and seawater immersion tests.
· Flexibility: Withstands joint expansion and contraction greater than 50%.
· Joint Depth Coverage: Varies by depth and width; e.g., 1/2" x 1/2" joint offers ~77 linear ft/gal (see coverage table on page 1).
· Clean-Up: Mix uncured components to form a non-hazardous solid for disposal. Drip-free containers must be discarded per regulations.
Limitations
· Not designed for UV-exposed areas requiring long-term color stability.
· Movement beyond designed flexibility may cause edge detachment—serves as a visual cue for excessive substrate movement.
· Not recommended to rely solely on joint backer rods for optimum performance.
