Description

Polycoat Tuffshield 801 is an unique high tensile and tear resistance, rapid curing, 100% solids, flexible, two component, spray elastomer that can be applied to suitably prepared concrete and metal surfaces.

Material Use:

Polycoat TuffShield 801 – High Performance Spray Elastomer Coating

TuffShield 801 is a rapid-curing, 100% solids, two-component spray-applied elastomer designed for demanding protective coating applications. It offers high tensile strength, tear resistance, chemical and abrasion resistance, and excellent thermal stability. It is ideal for environments requiring durability under thermal cycling, moisture, or chemical exposure.

System Components:

·       Side-A: Isocyanate component

·       Side-B: Resin component (requires thorough mixing before use; color packs, if used, must be added to Side-B)

·       Requires plural component spray equipment capable of 2000 psi and material temperatures above 150°F (66°C)

Applications:

·       Blast mitigation, secondary containment, structural steel, parking decks, food processing, cold storage, offshore platforms, power plants, refineries, landfills, cargo containers, and walkways.

·       Effective in both industrial and marine settings.

Application Details:

·       Mix Ratio: 1A:1B by volume

·       Application Equipment: Heated high-pressure spray systems (e.g., Graco Reactor or equivalent)

·       Spray Parameters: 2000+ psi, material preheated to 150–160°F (66–71°C)

·       Pot Life: 2–4 seconds

·       Tack-Free Time: 20–40 seconds

·       Recoat Window: 0–6 hours

·       Foot Traffic: 1–4 hours

·       Full Service: 10–24 hours

·       Service Temperatures: Dry -40°F to 250°F (-40°C to 121°C); Wet 40°F to 120°F (4.4°C to 48.9°C)

·       Minimum Surface Temp for Application: At least 5°F (3°C) above dew point

·       Surface Prep: Concrete must be cured 28 days and cleaned per ASTM standards; steel must be blast cleaned to SSPC-SP10/NACE 2. Use PC-260 or Polyprime 21 with sand for concrete repairs.

·       Recommended Thickness: Minimum >2 mm

·       Coverage: Theoretical = 1 mil → 1 gal covers 1600 ft²

·       Estimating Formula: (1600 ft² per gal / dry mil thickness) × solids content = gal per 100 ft²

Special Notes:

·       Not UV stable: subject to yellowing and gloss loss with UV exposure. For UV-sensitive applications, topcoating may be necessary.

·       Excellent adhesion to concrete (substrate failure >500 psi), steel (>900 psi), and itself (excellent intercoat adhesion).

·       Zero VOC (100% solids), USDA compliant

·       Can be applied at temperatures as low as -20°F (-28.9°C)

·       Moisture-tolerant during application

·       Avoid use on wet concrete or surfaces with moisture emission beyond acceptable ASTM F1869 limits

·       Shelf Life: 1 year in unopened containers, store at 60–95°F (15–35°C)

·       Must not be diluted; use desiccant during application

·       Suitable for multidirectional passes to ensure uniformity
