Description

Polycoat Tuffshield II HAR (High Abrasion Resistance) is a revolutionary fast set, 100% solids, flexible two component spray elastomer that gives outstanding physical performance against abrasion tear and impact.

Material Use

High Abrasion Resistance Spray Elastomer Coating

Polycoat TuffShield II HAR is a 100% solids, flexible, two-component spray-applied elastomer coating designed for superior abrasion, tear, and impact resistance. It is ideal for protecting surfaces in aggressive environments like industrial, marine, and mining settings. Its fast gel time allows for use in cold climates down to -20°F (-28.89°C), making it suitable for a wide range of field conditions.

System Components

This product is supplied in two parts (Side-A and Side-B) with a mix ratio of 1:1 by volume. No primer is needed for application on mild or carbon steel. For concrete and other porous surfaces, surface repair (using PC-260 or Polyprime 21 with sand) and proper priming are recommended for optimal adhesion. Compatible primers and repair agents include:

·       Polycoat PC-260 – for crack, void, and spall repairs

·       Polyprime 21 + sand – for surface repair and preparation

Applications

 Recommended for use on:

·       Cargo containers

·       Dredging equipment

·       Industrial floors and manufacturing facilities

·       Landfill containment systems

·       Marine structures

·       Mining operation structures

·       Petroleum refineries

·       Secondary containment areas

·       Water and wastewater treatment infrastructure

Application Details

·       Surface Preparation: Surface must be clean, dry, and properly profiled. New concrete must cure for 28 days. Shot blasting or abrasive blasting per SSPC/NACE/ICRI standards is necessary for steel and concrete.

·       Mixing & Application: Use plural-component heated spray equipment (e.g., Graco Reactor). Both components must be sprayed at ≥2000 psi and ≥150°F (66°C).

·       Application Temperature: Ambient temperature must be between -20°F and 250°F (-29°C to 121°C) dry; 40°F to 120°F (4°C to 49°C) wet.

·       Humidity: Recommended surface temperature should be at least 5°F (3°C) above dew point.

·       Pot Life: 2–4 seconds at 160°F (66°C), 50% RH

·       Tack-Free Time: 20–40 seconds

·       Return to Service:

o   Foot traffic: 2–4 hours

o   Full service: 10–24 hours

·       Full Cure: Within 24 hours

·       Coverage: Theoretical coverage is 1 gallon per 1600 ft² at 1 mil (0.001"). Actual required application thickness is >2 mm (80 mils), resulting in approx. 20 ft²/gal at 80 mils.

·       UV Stability: Due to its aromatic nature, the material will yellow or darken and become flat when exposed to UV light (non-UV stable).

·       Abrasion Resistance: Exceptional; CS17 wheel weight loss: 8 mg after 1000 cycles

·       Thickness Limits: Recommended minimum applied thickness is >2 mm (80 mils); no max thickness defined, but must be applied in multiple even coats if exceeding this.

Special Notes

·       TuffShield II HAR is zero VOC and exhibits outstanding performance in hydrolytic, thermal, and chemical resistance.

·       Coating is flexible and impact-resistant, passing mandrel bend and crack-bridging tests at low temperatures.

·       For metallic surfaces prone to flash rusting, priming and same-day application are recommended (e.g., using TuffShield 801 for bare metal).

·       Shelf life is one year from manufacture if stored between 60–95°F (15–35°C).

·       Do not open containers until ready to use. Use with desiccant devices.
