Description

VIPER VAPOR TAPE is a polyethylene-based adhesive tape used to maintain the vapour-barrier continuity of VIPER products in foundations.

ITEMS PER SKID: 432

Material Use:

Viper® Vapor Tape is a high-performance polyethylene seam tape designed for sealing, splicing, patching, and hanging plastic-type vapor barrier materials. It is primarily used in below-slab vapor barrier systems to ensure a continuous, monolithic moisture and vapor seal. The tape is engineered to provide aggressive adhesion and low water vapor permeance, making it ideal for maintaining the integrity of vapor barriers in contact with soil or granular fill under concrete slabs.

System Components:

Viper® Vapor Tape is typically used as part of a complete vapor barrier system that includes the Viper Vapor Barrier sheeting, Viper Double Bond Tape, Viper VaporPatch, and VaporCheck Mastic. These components work together to create a sealed, continuous membrane that isolates the concrete slab from moisture and soil gases such as radon and methane. Viper Vapor Tape is used to seal overlaps, seams, and penetrations in the vapor barrier, while Viper VaporPatch and VaporCheck Mastic are used for sealing around pipe penetrations and irregular openings.

Applications:

This product is suitable for use in residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects where a vapor barrier is required beneath concrete slabs. It is especially effective in applications where moisture control is critical, such as basements, crawl spaces, and slab-on-grade foundations. Viper Vapor Tape is compatible with all plastic-type vapor barriers and is compliant with ASTM E 1745 and ASTM E 1643 standards for vapor retarders used in contact with soil or granular fill.

Application Details:

- Surface Preparation: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free of dust or debris before applying the tape to maximize adhesion.

- Seam Sealing: Overlap vapor barrier sheets by a minimum of six inches and seal the overlap with Viper Vapor Tape and/or Viper Double Bond Tape.

- Penetrations: Seal around pipes and other penetrations using Viper VaporPatch or VaporCheck Mastic in combination with Viper Vapor Tape to maintain a continuous barrier.

- Installation Temperature: Recommended application temperature is 40°F (4°C) or above. The tape performs well in operating temperatures ranging from 32°F to 160°F (0°C to 71°C).

- Tape Thickness: Total thickness is 7.5 mils, with a 3.0 mil rubber adhesive layer.

- Adhesion Strength: Peel adhesion to stainless steel is 60 oz/in; backing adhesion is 35 oz/in.

- Water Vapor Permeance: Less than 0.001 perms, ensuring excellent moisture resistance.

- Flame and Smoke Ratings: Class A per ASTM E 84 with a flame spread of 10 and smoke developed of 35.

Special Notes:

- Viper Vapor Tape is serrated for easy tear-off during installation, reducing labor time and improving efficiency.

- The tape is designed to release easily from the roll, preventing stretching and curling.

- It requires no maintenance once installed.

- While the tape is not UV-rated, it is intended for use beneath concrete slabs and should be protected from prolonged UV exposure.

- Viper Vapor Tape is not a standalone vapor barrier but a component of a larger system. It should always be used in conjunction with compatible vapor barrier materials for optimal performance.

- For best results and compliance with project specifications, always follow the installation guidelines provided by ISI Building Products or consult architectural/structural drawings.

This product is an essential component in any high-performance vapor barrier system and is particularly effective in environments where moisture and soil gas control are critical.
