Material Use:

Viper VaporCheck 10-mil is a high-performance, cross-woven polyethylene vapor barrier designed for under-slab applications. It is used to prevent moisture migration through concrete slabs-on-grade, thereby protecting interior flooring systems and moisture-sensitive furnishings. It also serves as a barrier against radon, methane, and other soil gases, and helps control condensation, mold, and mildew within the building envelope.

System Components:

Viper VaporCheck 10-mil is typically used as part of a comprehensive vapor barrier system that includes the following accessories for sealing and detailing:

- Viper Vapor Tape – for sealing overlaps and seams.

- Viper Double Bond Tape – for enhanced seam adhesion.

- Viper VaporPatch – for sealing around penetrations and repairs.

- VaporCheck Mastic – for sealing terminations and penetrations.

These components work together to create a monolithic, continuous vapor barrier beneath concrete slabs.

Applications:

This product is suitable for use in commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects where a high-strength, low-permeance vapor barrier is required beneath concrete slabs. It is ideal for:

- Slab-on-grade construction

- Areas with high moisture or gas migration risk

- Installations requiring protection from radon, methane, and other soil contaminants

- Projects with moisture-sensitive flooring systems

Application Details:

- Installation Surface: Place directly over a leveled and compacted granular base.

- Placement: Unroll with the longest dimension parallel to the direction of the concrete pour. Extend over footings and seal to foundation walls or grade beams.

- Seams and Penetrations: Overlap seams by a minimum of 6 inches and seal with Viper Vapor Tape or Double Bond Tape. Seal all penetrations (e.g., pipes, columns) with VaporPatch or VaporCheck Mastic.

- Protection: Avoid punctures during rebar placement and concrete pouring. Use bar supports directly on the membrane and avoid driving stakes through the barrier. If penetrated, repair with appropriate Viper sealing products.

- Cushion Layer: If a cushion or blotter layer is required, use washed rock to minimize damage risk.

Special Notes:

- Thickness: Nominal 10-mil (0.010 inches)

- Water Vapor Permeance: 0.0016 perms (ASTM E 96) – extremely low, exceeding ASTM E 1745 Class A requirements

- Puncture Resistance: Up to 15,839 grams (ASTM D 1709), 91.59 kg (ASTM E 154), and 76 lbs (ASTM D 5602)

- Tensile Strength: 136 lbf/in (MD), 134 lbf/in (TD)

- Operating Temperature Range: -70°F to 180°F

- UV Resistance: Not UV-stable – intended for sub-slab use only and should be protected from prolonged UV exposure

- Chemical Resistance: Unaffected by alkali salts, sulfates, and petroleum-contaminated soils

- Life Expectancy: Indefinite when installed correctly and protected from physical damage

- Maintenance: None required post-installation
