Description

Formulated for direct application to pre-finished metal siding, Pro Industrial™ Bond-Plex® Waterbased Acrylic Coating is suitable for interior or exterior use.

Material Use:

Pro Industrial™ Bond-Plex® is a single-component, waterborne acrylic coating designed to promote adhesion on hard, slick, and glossy surfaces, particularly pre-finished metal siding. It is suitable for both interior and exterior applications and eliminates the need for a separate bonding primer on certain substrates. This product is ideal for use in light industrial environments, manufacturing facilities, and new construction projects.

System Components:

Pro Industrial™ Bond-Plex® is typically used as a base or bonding coat in a multi-layer coating system. It can be used alone or followed by one or two coats of an acceptable topcoat. Acceptable topcoats include:

- Pro Industrial Acrylic

- Pro Industrial DTM Primer/Finish

- Pro Industrial Multi-Surface Acrylic

- Pro Industrial Waterbased Acrolon 100

- Pro Industrial Waterbased Alkyd Urethane Enamel

- Pro Industrial Pre-Catalyzed Waterbased Urethane

Applications:

This coating is specifically formulated for application over:

- Pre-finished siding such as Fluorocarbons (Kynar®), Silicone Polyesters, and Polyester Polymers

- Previously painted, hard, slick, or glossy surfaces

Application Details:

- Number of Coats: 1–2 coats of Bond-Plex® followed by 1–2 coats of an acceptable topcoat, depending on substrate and desired finish.

- Application Methods: Airless spray, conventional spray, brush, or roller. For spray, use a 0.017–0.019 inch tip and 2400 psi pressure. For brush, use nylon-polyester; for roller, use a 1/2 inch woven cover (small surfaces only).

- Surface Preparation: Clean surfaces per SSPC-SP1 or NACE RP-01-72. Glossy surfaces should be dulled. Always test adhesion with a 2–3 sq. ft. patch and allow to cure for 1 week before evaluation.

- Mixing: Mix thoroughly with slow-speed power agitation before use. Stripe coat crevices and sharp angles to prevent early failure.

Special Notes:

- Temperature & Humidity Limits: Apply only when air, surface, and material temperatures are between 50°F (10°C) and 120°F (49°C), and at least 5°F above the dew point. Maximum relative humidity is 85%.

- Drying Times at 5.0 mils wet / 50% RH:

- Touch: 45 minutes at 77°F

- Tack-free: 4 hours at 77°F

- Recoat: 4 hours at 77°F

- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component product)

- Cure Sensitivity: Sensitive to rain, dew, and high humidity during the first 16–24 hours of curing. Avoid exposure to moisture during this period.

- Coverage: 160–328 sq. ft. per gallon depending on color and application method

- Recommended Thickness:

- Wet: 5.0–10.0 mils

- Dry: 2.4–4.1 mils

- Volume Solids: 39 ±2%

- VOC Content: <50 g/L (Extra White), 98 g/L (Aluminum)

- UV Resistance: Not explicitly stated; typically, acrylic coatings offer moderate UV resistance, but topcoat selection will determine final UV stability.

- Shelf Life: 36 months unopened (12 months for Aluminum version)

- Compliance: Meets VOC regulations for OTC, SCAQMD, CARB, and Canada. LEED v4 & v4.1 VOC compliant.

Performance Characteristics:

- Adhesion (ASTM D4541): 1477 psi

- Abrasion Resistance (ASTM D4060): 90.03 mg loss

- Impact Resistance (ASTM D2794): >176 in-lbs

- Flexibility (ASTM D522): Pass (1/4 inch mandrel)

- Humidity Resistance (ASTM D4585): Rating 10 for rusting and blistering

- Salt Fog Resistance (ASTM B117): Rating 8 for rusting, 8D for blistering (with primer)

- Dry Heat Resistance (ASTM D2485): 200°F (93°C)

System Use Summary:

Pro Industrial™ Bond-Plex® is best used as a bonding base coat over difficult-to-coat surfaces such as pre-finished metal siding or glossy painted surfaces. It can be topcoated with a variety of Pro Industrial finishes to create a complete system suitable for industrial and commercial environments. For enhanced corrosion resistance, it may be used in conjunction with Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer. Always verify compatibility with a test patch before full application.
