Pro Industrial DTM Bonding Primer

Designed to be part of a system for coating pre-finished metal siding - such as those containing Fluoro-carbon (Kynar), Silicone Polyester, or Polyester Polymers - Pro Industrial™ DTM Bonding Primer can also be used for other hard slick, glossy surfaces, and previously painted surfaces.

Pro Industrial™ DTM Bonding Primer is a waterborne, acrylic emulsion primer specifically designed to promote adhesion on hard, slick, glossy, or previously painted surfaces. It is ideal for use on pre-finished metal siding, including substrates such as Fluorocarbon (Kynar®), Silicone Polyester, and Polyester Polymers. This primer is intended to be used as part of a coating system and must be topcoated. It is suitable for light industrial applications, manufacturing facilities, and new construction projects.

This primer is used as the base coat in a multi-layer coating system. It must be followed by one or two coats of a compatible topcoat. Acceptable topcoats include:

- Pro Industrial Acrylic

- Pro Industrial DTM Acrylic

- Pro Industrial DTM Primer/Finish

- Pro Industrial Multi-Surface Acrylic

- Pro Industrial Bond-Plex WB Acrylic

- Pro Industrial Sher-Cryl HPA

Pro Industrial DTM Bonding Primer is recommended for:

- Pre-finished metal siding (Fluorocarbon, Silicone Polyester, Polyester Polymers)

- Previously painted, hard, slick, or glossy surfaces

- Light industrial environments

- Manufacturing facilities

- New construction projects

- Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. Glossy surfaces should be dulled by sanding. For pre-finished siding, clean per SSPC-SP1 or water blasting per NACE RP-01-72. Always test adhesion with a 2–3 sq. ft. patch and allow to cure for 1 week before evaluation.

- Application Methods: Can be applied by airless spray, conventional spray, brush, or roller. Use a 3/8" woven roller cover or nylon/polyester brush. For airless spray, use 2400 psi pressure with a 0.017–0.019" tip and 60 mesh filter.

- Film Thickness: Apply at 5.0–12.0 wet mils (2.2–5.3 dry mils) per coat.

- Coverage: 133–320 sq. ft. per gallon depending on substrate and application method. Theoretical coverage is 705 sq. ft. per gallon at 1 mil dry film thickness.

- Drying Times at 8.0 wet mils, 50% RH:

- Touch: 1 hour @ 50°F, 40 min @ 77°F, 20 min @ 120°F

- Handle: 6 hrs @ 50°F, 4 hrs @ 77°F, 2 hrs @ 120°F

- Recoat: 8 hrs @ 50°F, 4 hrs @ 77°F, 2 hrs @ 120°F

- Full Cure: 7 days @ 50–77°F, 3 days @ 120°F

- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component waterborne product)

- Temperature & Humidity Limits: Apply only when air, surface, and material temperatures are between 50°F (10°C) and 120°F (49°C), and at least 5°F above the dew point. Maximum relative humidity is 85%.

- Cleanup: Clean tools and equipment immediately with warm soapy water. Flush spray equipment with compliant solvent to prevent rust.

- This primer does not provide rust-inhibitive protection and should not be used as a standalone coating on bare steel. For corrosion resistance, use a corrosion-resistant primer on bare metal before applying this bonding primer.

- The product is not UV-stable on its own and must be topcoated with a UV-resistant finish.

- Do not tint this product.

- During early drying stages (first 16–24 hours), the coating is sensitive to moisture, dew, and high humidity. Avoid exposure to these conditions during this period.

- VOC content is less than 50 g/L (0.42 lbs/gal), making it compliant with most environmental regulations including OTC, SCAQMD, CARB, and LEED v4 VOC requirements.

- Shelf life is 36 months in unopened containers.

This primer is a critical component in systems designed for difficult-to-coat surfaces and should always be used in conjunction with a compatible topcoat to ensure long-term performance and durability.
