Description

Pro Industrial™ Galvite™ HS Alkyd Modified Acrylic Coating may be used un-top coated or top coated with select waterborne or solvent based coatings. It has great adhesion to properly prepared galvanized and aluminum substrates.

Material Use:

Pro Industrial™ Galvite™ HS is a solvent-based, alkyd-modified acrylic coating designed for use in mild industrial, commercial, and architectural environments. It is specifically formulated for direct application to galvanized and aluminum substrates, as well as primed ferrous metals and zinc-rich primers. It can be used as a standalone coating or as a base coat in a multi-layer system with compatible topcoats.

System Components:

This material can be used as a single-coat system or as part of a multi-coat system. When used in a system, it may be applied over:

- Galvanized steel

- Aluminum

- Galvalume® steel

- Zinc-rich primers

- Spot-primed rusted galvanized surfaces (using Pro Industrial™ Kem Bond HS Primer)

Acceptable topcoats include:

- Pro Industrial™ Acrylic

- Pro Industrial™ DTM Acrylic

- Pro Industrial™ Multi-Surface Acrylic

- Pro Industrial™ Urethane Alkyd Enamel

- Pro Industrial™ Industrial Enamel HS

- Pro Industrial™ Waterbased Alkyd-Urethane

- Pro Industrial™ Sher-Cryl

- Pro Industrial™ Silver-Brite Aluminum

- Dryfall Coatings

Applications:

This coating is recommended for use on:

- Overhead metal decking

- Metal ceilings

- Joists

- Railings

- Galvanized conduit

- Factory-finished interior metal roof decks (with proper surface preparation and adhesion testing)

Application Details:

- Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. For aluminum and galvanized steel, solvent cleaning per SSPC-SP1 is required. For rusted galvanized surfaces, spot prime with Pro Industrial™ Kem Bond HS Primer. For factory-finished metal roof decks, test adhesion before full application.

- Application Methods: Can be applied by airless spray, conventional spray, brush, or roller. Use a 3/8" nap roller or nylon-polyester/natural bristle brush. Airless spray requires 2400 psi pressure with a 0.015" tip.

- Film Thickness: Apply at 5.0–7.0 wet mils per coat, resulting in 3.0–4.2 dry mils.

- Coverage: 229–320 sq. ft. per gallon per coat. Theoretical coverage is 962 sq. ft. per gallon at 1 mil dry film thickness.

- Drying Times (at 5.0 wet mils, 50% RH):

- 40°F: Touch – 8–10 hrs, Handle – 16 hrs, Recoat – 24 hrs, Full Cure – 21 days

- 77°F: Touch – 1.5 hrs, Handle – 4 hrs, Recoat – 4.5 hrs, Full Cure – 14 days

- 100°F: Touch – 15 min, Handle – 30 min, Recoat – 1 hr, Full Cure – 7 days

- Pot Life: Not applicable (single-component product)

- Cure Time: Up to 21 days depending on temperature

- Temperature Range for Application: Minimum 40°F (4.4°C), Maximum 100°F (38°C); must be at least 5°F above dew point

- Humidity Limit: Maximum 85% relative humidity during application

- VOC Content: 337 g/L (2.81 lbs/gal)

- Volume Solids: 60 ±2%

- Weight Solids: 79 ±2%

- Weight per Gallon: 13.23 lbs

- Flash Point: 93°F TCC

- Shelf Life: 36 months (unopened)

Special Notes:

- This product is not UV-stable as a standalone finish and may require a UV-resistant topcoat for exterior durability.

- Do not tint this product. If a guide coat is needed, do not exceed ½ oz of colorant per gallon.

- Brush and roller applications may require multiple coats to achieve uniform appearance and film build.

- Surface preparation is critical for long-term performance. Inadequate preparation may compromise adhesion and durability.

- Not compliant with certain regional VOC regulations (e.g., SCAQMD, CARB). Check local regulations before use.

- For mildew-prone areas, pre-clean with a bleach solution (1 part bleach to 3 parts water), rinse thoroughly, and allow to dry before application.

This material is ideal for use in protective coating systems for metal substrates in commercial and light industrial settings, especially where early moisture resistance and good adhesion to galvanized or aluminum surfaces are required. When used with compatible primers and topcoats, it forms a durable, multi-layer protective system.
