Description
Loxon® clear 40% Silane water repellants defend masonry and concrete against chloride attack and wind-driven rain. Engineered for large commercial projects, these easy-toapply water repellants penetrate the surface for maximum protection. With minimal prep and cleanup, Loxon delivers a transparent, no-sheen finish for a natural, uncoated look, without marring glass or metal flashing. Loxon 40% Silane Vertical Water Repellant offers a premium, high-performance transparent coating that seals out moisture and chloride ion intrusion.
Material Use
Loxon 40% Silane Water Repellent is designed to protect concrete and masonry substrates from moisture intrusion and weather-related deterioration. It forms a breathable, long-lasting barrier that resists water, dirt, salt, acid rain, efflorescence, alkali, freeze-thaw cycles, and spalling.
System Components
This material is used as a standalone silane water repellent and does not require a topcoat or additional layers. However, for porous block substrates, a base coat of Loxon Acrylic Block Surfacer is recommended to achieve a pinhole-free surface. There is no primer needed or recommended for non-porous surfaces.
Applications
Loxon 40% Silane is suitable for:
- Vertical and horizontal surfaces of concrete and masonry
- Stadium supports
- Bridges and bridge structures
- Parking garages and traffic sound barriers
- Driveways, sidewalks, patios
- Tilt-up and poured-in-place walls
- Split-faced and fluted block
- Brick (clay or cement), mortar, stucco
Not suitable for:
- Asphalt
- Below-grade applications
- Immersion service
- Marble, limestone, or other calcium carbonate-based substrates
Application Details
- Method: Apply using low-pressure airless or pump-up sprayer. Use a "flood coat" technique, saturating vertical surfaces from the bottom up and allowing 8-10 inches of run-down; for horizontal surfaces, apply until the liquid stands briefly before soaking in.
- Coating system: A single flood coat is typically sufficient. If a second coat is required, it must be applied wet-on-wet.
- Surface preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Concrete must be cured at least 7 days at 75°F. Smooth, non-porous surfaces may require etching.
- Air and surface temperature: Must be between 50°F and 90°F during application.
- Protection from rain: Required for 4–5 hours post-application.
- Curing time: Allow 7 days for full product reaction.
- VOC: 343 g/L (2.86 lb/gal)
- Pot life: Not applicable (single-component solution)
- Flash Point: 158°F (TCC)
- Shelf Life: 12 months unopened
Special Notes
-
Coverage: Varies by substrate porosity:
- Smooth Precast Concrete: 125–175 sq.ft./gal
- Steel Troweled Concrete: 150–200 sq.ft./gal
- Porous/Decorative Block: 25–150 sq.ft./gal
- UV Resistance: Material does not discolor treated surfaces and resists darkening due to moisture, but is not characterized as UV stable or resistant.
-
Performance:
- 95% reduction in chloride ion intrusion (NCHRP 244)
- Water repellency: 88% (Rilem tube), 73% (3-day immersion)
- Passes alkali resistance testing with 5% and 10% NaOH
- Safety: Combustible. Use in well-ventilated areas. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Not for use over film-forming paints, or on structurally unsound surfaces without proper repair.
